Yellow Spike looked shocked when he saw her. He eyed her warily, his voice cold. “Who are you, kid? Why were you sneaking after me?”

Kayla’s long lashes trembled softly, masking a trace of panic in her gaze. She rose to her feet slowly, her mouth twitching into an awkward smile as she explained, “Sir, I wasn’t trying to follow you.

“I… I bumped into a group of gangsters a moment ago, and I got so frightened that I lost my composure and just ran straight here.

“I was just about to leave, but then I realized I was lost. I saw you were heading out too, so… I followed you.”

Yellow Spike had never been spoken to so gently before. Most people either called him “Yellow Spike” or worse-“asshole” or “bastard.” No girl had ever called him “sir” in such a sweet tone. He didn’t quite know how to react.

When he saw Kayla’s cautious expression, his tense stance softened a lot. But he still put on a tough front and said, “Aren’t you scared I’m a gangster too?”

He thought, ‘I’ve got yellow hair and weird clothes. Most people cross the street to avoid me. Why isn’t this girl scared? Did I lose my intimidating vibe today?‘

Kayla smiled and shook her head. “No, you don’t look like a bad guy.”

Her firm gaze caught Yellow Spike off guard, and he couldn’t keep up his tough act anymore.

He pressed his lips together, a rare hint of kindness showing. “Be more careful when you’re out. Don’t trust just anyone. Not everyone’s good.”

As he spoke, he tried to look fierce and made a face at Kayla.

Kayla was left speechless, thinking, ‘I’m practically an adult. How could I be scared by this yellow–haired kid? And he actually believed what I said? Who’s the one trusting people too easily here? Apparently, he’s the one who needs to be more vigilant.

‘Sure enough, this guy looked all tough–decked out with dyed hair, eyebrow piercings, lip studs, and ear studs, like a spiky hedgehog. But he’s more naive and easy to fool than I expected!

“Fine, come with me. I’ll walk you out of the alley.” Yellow Spike waved a hand and headed outward.

Kayla put on a grateful look and quickly agreed. “Great, thank you so much. You’re such a good gentleman!”

I’m a good gentleman?” The yellow–haired boy pressed his lips together, trying to hide a smile, but the faint flush on his ears gave him away.

They walked for a while, and Kayla chatted casually with him. Once she was sure Yellow Spike had let his guard down completely, she asked tentatively, “Sir, do you happen to know if there’s a decent hospital nearby?

“I got a little hurt and want to get it checked. It’d be best if you or someone you know has been there, so I know it’s reliable.”

Afraid he wouldn’t believe her, Kayla held up the hand she’d scraped when she fell and waved it gently.

Yellow Spike glanced at the faint red mark on her wrist and clicked his tongue silently, thinking, ‘Such a kid. She needs a hospital for just a scratch? She’s so delicate, Forget it. Well, she called me “sir” anyway. I’ll help her out.

After thinking for a moment, he said, “There’s one not far north of the alley. An elder of mine was treated there recently after a car accident. The medical bills are pretty high, so it must be decent…”
