If he hadn’t found her feverish and unconscious later, she wouldn’t even have gone to the school infirmary.

Now, for a mere scrape, she’d come all the way to the hospital. And that was suspicious to him.

“How did you get hurt? And are your old injuries better?” There was a faint note of concern in Payton’s voice that made Kayla dumbfounded.

She thought, I said such cruel things to him that day, yet he still worries about me?‘

Kayla lowered her eyes slightly, forcing an aloof expression. “Just a little accident,” she said lightly.

Payton clearly didn’t believe her. He was about to press further when the door of the outpatient room behind him creaked open. A doctor in a doctor’s overall poked her head out. “Next patient? Please?”

At the sound, Kayla turned around and raised her hand almost instinctively with a hint of urgency in her voice. “Me!”

The doctor glanced at her calmly and nodded. “Sure. Come in.”

Kayla said nothing more. She stepped around Payton, walked into the room, and closed the door behind her, shutting out Payton’s questioning gaze.

Payton stared at the closed door. His eyes lingered on the three words “Gynaecology & Obstetrics Department” on the doorframe, and his brows furrowed even tighter.

He thought, ‘Gynaecology & Obstetrics Department? Since when do the doctors there treat trauma?‘

But as he recalled Kayla’s slightly flustered expression just now, a new wave of doubt crept into Payton’s mind.

‘Could Kayla be…?‘ The thought made his eyes darken, a grave look flickering across his face.

But he had no time to dwell on it. With his mother still lying unconscious in the ward fresh in his mind, Payton didn’t stay a moment longer. He turned around and headed directly for her ward.

Inside the Gynecology & Obstetrics Department’s outpatient room, the doctor had just put on gloves. When she saw Kayla walk in, her brows furrowed slightly. There was a mix of reproach and confusion in her eyes.

“Young lady, are you an adult?” the doctor asked, her voice sharp with seriousness.

Kayla’s gaze drifted to the glass panel of the door, and she shook her head distractedly. “No.”

The doctor’s face darkened instantly.

She asked, “Underage? Where are your parents? Are they not with you? How far along are you? Do you understand how serious this is? Was this voluntary, or were you forced? Should I call your parents right now?”

A flurry of questions poured out, her tone laced with reproach and helplessness.

The doctor thought, ‘Why are the girls these days so ignorant? They experienced sex too early and didn’t even use condoms. They didn’t take any measures to protect themselves at all. That’s so irresponsible.

Kayla didn’t catch the oddity in the doctor’s questions. She just smiled and shook her head. “No, it’s nothing. My parents are busy with work and don’t have time for me. Don’t bother them.”
