Chapter 286 A Family Divide
:
Emery had even gone on to have three sons in a row and finally a daughter.
With two sons and a daughter, she had done her part in expanding the family line.
If that wasn’t a blessing, what was?
So, Emery’s first half of life had been nothing but smooth sailing.
The only question was whether her good days would last forever.
“Mom, it’s not that I want to replace Amelia,” Gianna said sweetly. “I’m just worried she’s being too showy. If she hits a wall, she might not be able to handle it.”
Gianna was getting better and better at lying through her teeth while keeping a perfectly innocent expression.
“That’s exactly why I want you to be the spokesperson this time,” Emery replied. “Next time, she can take the spotlight.”
That was how Emery saw it. Gianna wasn’t even blood–related, yet she was always so grateful and thoughtful toward the family.
So, letting her have this chance felt like the right thing to do—a way to avoid guilt later.
Besides, there would always be more opportunities in the future. Amelia wouldn’t lose out.
If anyone else heard what Emery was thinking, they’d be shocked speechless.
“Mom, you’re so good to me. I don’t ever want to get married. I just want to stay by your side and take care of you forever,” Gianna cooed as she massaged her mother’s shoulders and back.
Her honeyed words had Emery floating with joy, completely won over.
“Silly girl,” Emery laughed. “You’re engaged to Vincent now. You’ll be Mrs. Dester soon, living happily ever after. There’s no way I’d let you stay single just to take care of me.”
Emery knew perfectly well that wasn’t going to happen. Having a husband for life—and money and maids to serve her–was plenty.
Gianna, of course, knew that too. That was exactly why she said it.
The two chatted and laughed warmly together until the three brothers came home one after another and broke the cozy scene apart.
Emery immediately told them about Gianna’s situation and her own thoughts.
Finished
She figured her sons would feel sorry for Gianna, just like she did, and maybe even help her get what she wanted.
But no-
“Don’t tell me about this. Talk to Miguel. He’s the one in charge of her matters at the company,” Marcelo replied without a second thought.
He didn’t even bother saying Gianna’s name, referring to her simply as “her.”
“Mom, stop trying to meddle in everything,” Miguel added. “The company isn’t as simple as you think.
“A lot of decisions aren’t up to me. Besides, Amelia really helped the company this time. It makes sense for her to be the spokesperson.”
Miguel wasn’t suddenly enlightened–he was just being reasonable for once.
He figured Amelia had genuinely earned the credit, and since she was his real sister, letting her represent the company was only fair.
Two out of three sons not taking Gianna’s side completely stunned Emery.
What was wrong with them?
Usually, if Gianna so much as got a tiny scratch or teared up, all three brothers would rush to comfort her.
Now they were acting like different people.
Amelia had warned Emery before that Gianna was getting too close to her sons–too intimate, even–and she’d brushed it off at the time.
But now, seeing them so cold to Gianna, Emery thought they were being too cruel.
Thankfully, her youngest son finally spoke up–like the good boy she remembered.
“Marcelo, Miguel, what are you saying? Gianna worked hard too. Without her, Nygard Group wouldn’t have been able to face the higher–ups,” said Maxwell.
“She solved a major crisis the moment she came back. Amelia just showed up later and took all
the credit. How can that be fair?”
Seeing Gianna secretly wiping away tears while the other two said nothing broke Maxwell’s heart.
