Chapter 202 Trapped in White

Estella turned back, her smile cold and sharp. “Nathaniel, I haven’t congratulated you yet on your engagement.”
Nathaniel hesitated, then said, “Estella, my marriage with Isabelle… it’s just a temporary arrangement.”
“That has nothing to do with me.” Estella moved to leave.
But Nathaniel caught her arm.
Her brow furrowed, her tone edged with ice. “Mr. Hartwell, do you want another trip to jail?”
He released her instantly, his voice softening into something like pleading.
“I need a favor.”
Estella didn’t even look at him as she turned and walked away.
“Estella!” he called after her. “Just this once – I’m begging you.”
Nathaniel begging? The thought was laughable.
She didn’t look back. She walked straight out, her appetite gone with the encounter.
By late afternoon, Jonathan’s message arrived: he’d ordered her dinner, and it would be delivered soon.
Estella wasn’t surprised.
Sometimes, when she worked late, she forgot to eat. Jonathan had figured that out long ago, and now, whenever he ordered food for himself, he always added a meal for her. Even on business trips in faraway Cesnaville, he still remembered. Always thinking of her.
When the food arrived, Estella ate quickly, then buried herself back in work, not leaving the office until nine.
Just outside, she ran into a student’s mother.
“Madam Millie,” Estella greeted, recognizing her. “Do you need something?”
The woman smiled warmly. “Yes, I’d like your help. My daughter’s entering a piano competition, and I’m not sure what she should wear. You’ve got such good taste, Ms. Hayes.

Could you come help us pick something out?”
Since it was for a student, Estella couldn’t refuse. “Of course. We can go to the shop together.”
“That’s wonderful. Thank you for taking the time,” Madam Millie said gratefully, ushering her
into the car.
Estella settled in the back seat. “Where’s Faye?”
Madam Millie explained, “She’s already at the boutique.”
Estella nodded, unsuspecting.
The car pulled up to a high-end couture shop.
She knew the brand to go so far.

their gowns started in the millions. She hadn’t expected Madam Millie
“I want to fulfill my daughter’s wishes,” the woman said. “Even if she only wears it once — – if she’s happy, then I’m happy.”
Estella nodded in understanding.
Inside, Faye sat neatly on the sofa. When she saw Estella, she piped up sweetly, “Ms. Hayes.”
Estella smiled back and spent some time with her before helping them choose gowns.
Faye tried on three. One suited her so well that she beamed with satisfaction. Then she turned to Estella. “Ms. Hayes, since you’re here, why don’t you try one too?”
Estella blinked, then shook her head. “No need. I’ll pass.”
But with both mother and daughter coaxing her, she couldn’t refuse. “All right, just one.”
She meant to pick something simple, but the attendant brought her a white gown.
Estella frowned at it. “This looks like a wedding dress. Perhaps another style?”
“It only resembles one,” the attendant said smoothly. “It isn’t truly a bridal gown.”
“Ms. Hayes, this one is perfect,” Faye insisted. “Please try it.”
Pushed into the fitting room, Estella reluctantly put it on.
