Chapter 106 Riding Lessons at the Stables
Jill suddenly leaned in close, her voice low and conspiratorial.
Sloane instantly knew what she was getting at, but to indulge her, she put on a curious expression. “That’s kind of sudden. Did something happen?”

Jill’s eyes sparkled with glee as she whispered, “They’re saying she went abroad for further studies, but really, the Shanks family just wanted to ship her off–far away–so she’d stop causing trouble here. I heard even the old man, who usually spoils her rotten, completely lost it this time.”
“What’d she do? Must’ve been serious,” Sloane asked, though she already knew it had to do with Adrian.
“No clue,” Jill said with a shrug, “but whatever it was, it couldn’t have been small. Otherwise the Shanks wouldn’t be clamping down this hard.”
She added, “Still, now that she’s gone, campus is going to be a lot less chaotic. She always strutted around like she owned the place just because she’s Lucas’s cousin. Honestly, it was exhausting.”
Before they parted ways, Jill perked up and said, “Hey, my brother’s taking me riding tomorrow. Want to come with us?”
She hooked her arm around Sloane’s. “Doesn’t matter if you’ve never ridden before. I’ll teach you.”
“Sure.” Sloane suddenly felt a wave of longing for the mountains. Right on cue, Snowball stirred in her sleeve as if picking up on her thoughts.
She gently patted the snake, calming it.
“Then it’s a date! You better show up!” Jill grinned.
After they split up, Sloane returned to her villa near the university.
As soon as she opened her laptop, a stream of missed messages poured in. They were all from x9. He’d assigned her a new set of tasks, though he wasn’t online at the moment–his avatar was grayed out.
The file contained a long list of intricate problems, spanning several highly specialized disciplines. It was clear that completing them would take real time and effort.

“This guy never holds back,” Sloane muttered, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Despite the difficulty, these kinds of challenges were exactly what she thrived on.

She worked through the night, solving each of x9’s tasks one by one. By the time she finished, it was already early morning.
Stretching her arms, she sent everything back along with a note: she’d be horseback riding tomorrow–if he needed her, he’d have to wait until the day after.
Later, Jill showed up at Sloane’s place. After a quick tour of the apartment, she looked around enviously. “I wish I could move out too. But my family would never go for it.”
Sloane laughed. “That’s easy. Just stay here with me now and then. I’ll even teach you how to game.”
Jill threw her arms around her. “Sloane, you’re the best!”
