Adrian lowered his head, his voice thick with remorse. “I’m sorry, Sloane. We… we did too many terrible things to you. We shouldn’t have believed Samantha’s lies, shouldn’t have pushed you aside, and we definitely shouldn’t have… shouldn’t have sent you to that mental hospital. We were wrong. Really wrong.”

At those words, a flicker of coldness flashed through Sloane’s eyes. She looked straight at Adrian, her tone sharp and cutting. “What’s that supposed to mean? Blame everything on Samantha, and suddenly you’re all off the hook?”

Sloane let out a cold laugh, cutting him off. “Don’t pretend to be the good guy now, Adrian. You all ignored me, pushed me away, and even locked me up in a mental hospital. Was that Samantha forcing you, too? You made those choices yourselves, and now you want to dump all the blame on her?”

Adrian couldn’t get a word in. Her words had caught him off guard, and his face showed a flicker of embarrassment and panic.

Sloane stared at him, her voice laced with undisguised contempt. “Regret? You’re not sorry for hurting me. You’re sorry the Rivers family collapsed. You regret losing the chance to use me.”

Adrian’s face flushed with shame as she tore right through him. “No, that’s not what I meant…”

“Enough!” Sloane snapped, her tone blazing with fury. “Stop lying to yourself, Adrian! You didn’t come here because you feel guilty, you came because the Rivers family is done for, and you’re desperate. You suddenly remember I exist because you want me to beg Lucas to save your precious family, don’t you?”
