Ginnie’s gaze flicked between the two of them. With a polite smile that barely masked her intent, she stepped forward and said with a hint of sarcasm, “Ms. Sloane certainly attracts people. Even someone as emotionally distant as Mr. Whitney seems deeply concerned about you.”

Her words instantly soured the air. Everyone present frowned.

Larry’s expression darkened. “Ginnie, you don’t know me well enough to make comments like that. Don’t pretend you understand who I am.”

Samson scowled. “Benjamin got pulled back to do another emergency surgery.”

Jill nodded in understanding, then took the chance to dig a little deeper. “You’ve known Lucas forever. You must know all kinds of stuff about him, right?”

She tugged on his arm playfully. “Don’t be like that! I just want to know-there’s a rumor going around that Lucas proposed to Ginnie. Is that true?”
