Just then, Miles suddenly looked up and–rare for him–gestured to the bodyguards. “Let them through.”
Ginnie’s face brightened with pride in an instant.
She shot Sloane a smug look, silently mouthing, “Just wait and see.”
She hurried forward, eager to speak; but before she could get a word out, Miles bypassed her entirely. With a rare, warm smile, he reached out toward the back. “Dr. Rivers! What a surprise to run into you here!”
Ginnie’s hand stopped halfway, her smile faltering at once.
Sloane walked up calmly and shook his hand. “Hello, Mr. Miles. I was invited as the keynote speaker for the Medical Innovation Forum.”
“Excellent!” Miles said warmly. “The standardized protocol you submitted last time for traditional medicine–we’ve already discussed it at the ministry. It was highly constructive.”
Ginnie, unwilling to give up, forced her way into the conversation. “Mr. Miles, I’m Ginnie from the Lyle Group. We met at the banquet last time…”
Only then did Mr. Miles seem to notice her. He frowned, trying to recall. “Lyle Group?” A moment later, he shook his head coolly. “Sorry. Doesn’t ring a bell.”
The room fell silent. Several entrepreneurs waiting in line couldn’t help but smirk.
Ginnie’s face turned scarlet; even her meticulously styled hair seemed on the verge unraveling.

“Don’t you remember? That night, I went out of my way to toast you…”
But Miles had already turned back to Sloane. “By the way, Dr. Rivers, there’s an expert tomorrow morning–you must attend. I won’t feel at ease about this traditional medicine modernization project without your oversight.”

The entrepreneurs nearby gasped. Everyone knew how important that two–hundred–billion- dollar national project was.
Ginnie stumbled back two steps, nearly tripping on her own dress. She couldn’t fathom it: after all her scheming, the man she courted had shamed her openly.

And what shattered her further was what came next. Miles instructed his bodyguards, “Arrange a private passage for Dr. Rivers. She’s an honored guest at this summit.”
The bodyguard immediately bowed. “Dr. Rivers, this way, please.”
Sloane tilted her head toward Lucas. A flicker of amusement passed through his eyes as he naturally fell into step beside her.
As Sloane walked past the stunned Ginnie, her voice carried a calm, heavy edge. “Ms. Ginnie, it seems your ‘acquaintance‘ doesn’t remember you too well.”
Ginnie froze, her manicured nails biting into her palm. Sloane, I’ll get you for this.
