The next morning, Sloane handed the patients over to Maxwell and the others, then locked herself inside the lab.

Everyone knew she was working on an antidote. No one knew what she was really doing.

Inside, Sloane stared at the petri dish where the virus sample glowed with an eerie blue light. She picked up a syringe she had prepared earlier, the needle glinting coldly under the lamp.

With calm precision, she drew the viral culture into the syringe and injected it into her own body.

On the nineteenth floor, chaos erupted. Alarms shrieked, monitors wailed, and the sharp beeping blended into a symphony of death.

“The cure… it’s ready…” Her voice was barely a whisper, but it silenced the entire ward.

Maxwell rushed forward, taking the vial from her. Inside were seventeen jade-green pills, each giving off a faint herbal fragrance.

“One pill each… with warm water…” Sloane managed to speak before collapsing. Maxwell caught her and felt the heat radiating from her feverish body. Her right arm was covered in puncture marks from repeated injections.

Tears blurred the nurses’ eyes as they quickly distributed the pills. To everyone’s shock, within ten minutes, the elderly man in bed four opened his eyes. His oxygen levels began climbing steadily,
