Chapter 410 Let’s Start a War
Sloane was tweaking the surveillance system; she looked up at his words. “You’re going to take him out directly? That’s too dangerous.”
“No; it’s using someone else’s hand to do the killing.” A cold smile tugged at Lucas’s mouth. “Charlie’s been running an arms–smuggling operation; last month he and his partner fell out over how to split the profits.”
Lucas dialed an encrypted number; a hoarse male voice answered on the other end. “Who is this?”
“Mr. Ruben–heard you and Charlie’ve had some… disagreements at the docks lately.” Lucas’s tone held a hint of mischief.
There was a few seconds of silence on the line. “Who are you? How do you know that?”
“Who I am isn’t important.” Lucas glanced at the files on Sloane’s screen; what matters is that I know Charlie secretly diverted thirty percent of the profits that belonged to you last week.
Ruben’s breathing grew heavier. “Do you have proof?”
Lucas gave Sloane a look; she immediately sent a forged set of financial records. “Check your encrypted inbox, Mr. Ruben. And just so you know, Charlie’s been very active lately–what do you think he’s up to?”
There was the sound of paper shuffling, then Ruben’s suppressed roar of anger. “That bastard!”
“I can provide more intel,” Lucas lowered his voice; “for example, Charlie will meet his new partner tonight at the old dock, and your shipment happens to be there…”
When he hung up, Jaime whistled. “You’re going to make them slaughter each other.”
Sloane’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she pulled up Charlie’s itinerary. “Charlie was supposed to attend a charity gala tonight, but we can make him ‘change plans.””
She hacked into Charlie’s assistant’s phone and forged an urgent message: “Boss, something’s happening at the docks; the Kieran family is moving on our cargo.”
Lucas nodded in satisfaction. “Now, let’s watch the fun.”
Jaime suddenly frowned, “Wait–we have to make sure they actually fight. That old fox Ruben might send scouts first.”
“You’re right.” Lucas thought for a moment. “Sloane, can you penetrate the dock’s surveillance?”
“Already working on it.” Sloane brought up the live feeds from the docks. “I can create some false impressions”
She quickly wrote a program and manipulated the monitors so Ruben could only see what they wanted him to see.
“Perfect.” Lucas narrowed his eyes. “Now, let’s add more fuel to Charlie’s fire.”
He had Sloane send orders to several bodyguards under Charlie’s confidant accounts: “The boss commands: tonight’s dock operation; all men carry live rounds.”
Night fell; the docks were silent. Charlie’s convoy arrived on schedule, a dozen or so bodyguards tense and alert.
