Lucas’s expression was cold and focused as his long fingers quickly flipped through the file. “Get me a meeting with their director. The sooner, the better. Prepare our development plans and resource advantage report in the field of intelligent manufacturing. Also, find out the real reason they’ve turned down other companies. Know your enemy–only then can you take the upper hand in negotiations.”

Andrew nodded. “Yes, I’ll get on it right away.

He didn’t leave immediately and added, “Sir, you missed your scheduled treatment with Ms. Rivers while you were away. I checked your itinerary–you’re free tomorrow afternoon. Should I schedule it for then?”

inished and set the pen down. “I’ll contact her myself later.”

Today was Sloane’s first computer science class. She went in full of excitement, but halfway through the lecture, she realized the material was far too basic for her.

The professor spoke with passion at the podium, but everything he said was stuff she had mastered years ago.

Her mind drifted back to the dark web forum. The assignments X9 had given her were difficult and full of complex challenges that required every ounce of skill to solve. Compared to that, this lecture was laughable.

She barely made it to the end of class, then quickly packed up and went to meet Jill.

On the way, she passed Samantha in the hallway without even looking her way.

Samantha had just opened her mouth to call out to her, but Sloane was already gone.

Summer, indignant, said, “What kind of attitude is that? She didn’t even say hi to you. That’s just plain rude.”

Samantha lowered her hand and sighed. “I’m used to it by now. She even blocked everyone in the family. Mom and Dad can’t reach her anymore, so they’ve been calling me instead.”

“What? She really blocked them?” Summer was shocked, raising her voice. “That’s so heartless. No matter the argument, they’re still her parents!”

A flicker of smug satisfaction passed through Samantha’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by an expression of sadness. She shook her head gently.
