“So your brother is the Abyss Warlord?” I couldn’t fathom it. “He led your army to their deaths. He placed them in the front line.”

“It was an order from Father. He dared not disobey him,” he replied, helping me out of my gown and sliding off my underwear. When he turned me to face him, I still couldn’t comprehend it.

“You know,” I began, unable to stop my thoughts, “the first time I saw your brother, his presence didn’t strike me much. But the second time I stood face–to–face with him, I felt something divine, like power radiating from him. He carries himself like royalty, like a warrior born. I thought it was just because he’s your half brother, the prince of this kingdom, but now I see why he’s so confident. So he’s a warlord? How fierce is he?”

I spoke too much. Lycannar took my hand and led me toward the bath chamber, pushing the door open gently and pulling me in with him.

It felt like a surprise. Candles glowed in every corner, and a pool of clear, steaming water awaited in the center.

“My brother is the finest warrior I have ever seen,” he said, voice calm, “but in terms of strength and skill… I don’t mean to brag, but I am different.”

“I already know that,” I murmured, turning to him. “You’re a hybrid. Different.”

I met his gaze, but when he stepped closer with a mischievous smile, I instinctively stepped back. “Stop, what are you doing?”

“Trying to bathe you. What else?” he asked, almost innocently, but I knew better. I knew what that look meant.

I put some distance between us, sighing shakily, smiling at my own nervousness. It wasn’t the first time we’d bathed together, yet my heart was fluttering uncontrollably. Was it because I was pregnant?

“Fine,” he said softly. “If you don’t want to, it’s fine.”

His understanding tone made me look up at him in awe.

“Lycannar…” I called. “No, I wasn’t trying to deny you your right.”

He smiled gently and came closer, his hand brushing my cheek. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips, murmuring tenderly,

“I know. And I know you deserve rest. Making love to you can wait until your body is ready. I

can wait…

“Am I not attractive to you anymore?” The question slipped from my lips before I could stop it. It startled both of us.

He blinked, confused, and I realized what I’d implied. His restraint, did that mean I no longer drew him in?

“Lycannar…” I whispered, watching him search my face again.

“What’s wrong with you tonight?” he asked quietly. “You’re getting too emotional. Is there something I don’t know?”

I quickly looked away before he could read the truth in my eyes. Stepping into the pool, I let my anger at him mask my fear.

He joined me soon after, undressing and slipping into the water. When he reached for the soap, I held on a little too tightly.

“Alright, I’m sorry,” he murmured, coming behind me to kiss my shoulder. “I just feel something’s wrong with you lately.”

I turned slowly to face him, my heart softening at his gorgeous face.

“Why do you say that?”

“Because you seem… scared I’ll stop loving you,” he said gently. His eyes caught mine, and I froze. He was right. “That’s not going to happen, Zephyrine. I already promised I won’t reject you. The woman who stayed with me at my lowest deserves to stand by me at my highest. Loved, worshiped, and cherished.”

He took the soap from my hand and sighed, gazing at me with that same quiet tenderness.

“Let me handle the battle that’s coming, Zephyrine,” he said. “All I ask is that you stay out of it. Let me finish it, put your brother in his place. I won’t kill him, I swear, but that’s the most I can promise. Let me end this.”

Emotions swirled in my chest. His eyes held a storm of love and fear, and in that moment, everything aligned. I understood.

“You once asked if I had a dragon,” I whispered. “Why?”
