The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 19

Mr. Quigley Sr. gave a knowing smile and chose not to intervene—for now.

Lindsay walked over to the couch and sat down, her gaze sweeping across the Quigley family members seated opposite her. Her face was calm, almost serene, as she looked first at Helen. “Helen, do you need me to remind you again why you got yourself into trouble this time?”

Helen, however, dodged the question. With her husband and son there beside her, she felt emboldened.

“As long as you admit you hit me, that's enough. Even if you’re married to Yves now, I’m still your sister-in-law. Laying a hand on me is disrespectful.”

Lindsay gave a wry smile. “It’s true—my people did hit Helen.”

Helen’s lips curled in satisfaction at Lindsay’s admission. “If you want to be a Quigley, you’d better follow the family rules. Show respect to your elders, care for the younger ones, be kind to your in-laws. But instead, you had your people rough me up—and then you extorted eighty-eight thousand dollars from me.”

Leif immediately slammed his hand on the table, his eyes blazing as he glared at Lindsay. “Lindsay, you’ve crossed the line! All these years, you’ve lived off the Quigley family, and now you have the nerve to lay hands on my mother and blackmail her?”

Joshua’s face was like ice. “Unless you give us a proper explanation today, you and your husband can both get out.”

The “husband” he referred to was, of course, Yves.

At those words, Mr. Quigley Sr. instinctively glanced at Joshua, his eyes narrowing, though he said nothing.

Althea chimed in with mock concern. “Oh, come now, we’re all family here. Joshua, that’s a bit much, don’t you think? Not even dad is pleased to hear talk like that.”

Lester, ever the instigator, backed his mother up. “Mom, you’re just too soft-hearted. But I agree with Joshua—some people think a little power goes a long way. She’s only been a Quigley for a few days and already she’s bullying both her sisters-in-law and siccing her dog on people. If this keeps up, the Quigley family will be turned upside down.”
