The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 21

For a moment, Althea pressed her lips together, silent, but her eyes flicked toward Lester in a meaningful glance.

If they couldn’t take Lindsay down tonight, life in the Quigley family would only get harder for them.

Lester was about to speak when Lindsay cut in first. “Have you forgotten, nephew, how you stormed upstairs that night and showed me such disrespect? In this family, disrespecting your elders means you should spend some time in the chapel, reflecting on your actions.”

She gave him a pointed look, then added, “Oh, and by the way, your skills are seriously lacking if you can’t even handle a kid. If word gets out, people will laugh. Maybe you should spend less time posturing and more time practicing.”

Lester’s face darkened instantly. His hands, resting on his thighs, curled into tight fists, knuckles straining under the skin.

He’d never breathed a word about that night to anyone. The last thing he needed was to lose face.

The CEO of the Quigley Group, brought down by a child. Unthinkable.

“Lester, you too?” Althea’s heart clenched as she looked at him, worry etched on her face.

“Of course not.” There was no way he’d admit to something so humiliating.

Lindsay laughed, a sharp, ringing sound. “There’s a camera in the fourth-floor sitting room.”

She hadn’t installed it just to keep an eye on Lester—it was for the whole Quigley clan.

Lester shot up from the sofa like he’d been jolted by electricity. “That’s enough. I just remembered I have work to do at the office. I’ll be going now.”

Without waiting for a reply, he strode out the door, ignoring Althea’s calls after him.
