The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 33

Althea raised three fingers in a solemn vow. “That’s the only thing I’ve ever done, and I only did it because I didn’t want the child to grow up in a broken home. I swear, everything I did was for your own good.”

Lindsay shook her head with a cold, mirthless laugh. She pressed on, “Are you sure about that? I’ll give you one more chance.”

No one ever confesses without evidence staring them in the face. Althea was no exception. Whatever Lindsay was accusing her of, as long as there was no proof pointing her way, she’d deny it to the end.

Lindsay’s eyes narrowed, her voice icy. “I was willing to let you come clean and give you a way out, but you made your choice. Don’t blame me for what happens next.”

Althea’s heart skipped a beat, her brow furrowing as she looked sharply at Lindsay. Had she somehow gotten hold of damning evidence?

Mr. Quigley Sr.’s face clouded with concern, turned to Lindsay. “Lindsay, what has she done now?”

Instead of airing it out in front of everyone, Lindsay took Mr. Quigley aside and spoke in a low voice. “About why Yves ended up in a coma—it was the incense in his room. That’s what did it.”

“What? The incense?” Mr. Quigley knew well that Yves' bedroom always carried the faint scent of sandalwood. He’d always thought it was for calming the nerves.

“Yes. And you know who arranged for that incense, don’t you?” Lindsay began to quietly explain the whole story.

She chose not to go public, not yet. Partly to protect herself and Yves. If Althea found out they’d switched the incense, she’d only try something else, something worse. That would be disastrous for Yves, especially now that he was starting to show signs of waking up.

Hearing Lindsay’s explanation, Mr. Quigley shook with anger, his hands clenched tight. For a moment, he could have killed Althea himself. “Right under my nose… she dared to hurt Yves like this. If I suddenly passed away, what’s to stop her from finishing him off?”

Lindsay pressed her advantage. “That’s why you can’t go traveling the world right now. Please, wait until Yves wakes up.”

“Is there really a chance? Will Yves come back to us?” Mr. Quigley’s voice trembled, his eyes rimmed red. The pain for his youngest son was almost too much to bear.
