The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 51

Naomi poked Lester’s solid chest with her slender fingers, her lips pouting in a playful, teasing way. “Lester, are you ever going to fall for Lindsay? She’s totally head over heels for you, and you know what they say—a girl chasing a guy is just a matter of time.”

Lester caught her chin between his fingers, giving it a gentle shake. “You really do let your imagination run wild, don’t you? You know how I feel about you. What, do you need me to cut out my heart and hand it to you to prove it?”

Naomi grinned, satisfied with his answer, a sly smile curving at the corners of her mouth.

“So, can I work at Quigley Enterprises?” she asked, seizing the moment.

If it had been yesterday, Lester would have agreed before she’d even finished asking. But tonight, things had changed—he was no longer the CEO of Quigley Enterprises.

With Yves back, it would be nearly impossible for Lester to arrange a job for Naomi at the company.

A troubled look crossed his face as he considered her request. After a moment, he offered, “How about this? I’ll get you a spot at Bloom.”

Naomi’s expression instantly cooled. “Lester, do you think my degree isn’t good enough for Quigley Enterprises? That I’m only fit for Bloom?”

Bloom might have been a subsidiary of Quigley Enterprises, but it was nowhere near the same league.

“Of course not,” Lester said after a pause, finally deciding to come clean. “It’s Yves. He’s awake—and he’s coming back to Quigley Enterprises tomorrow.”

“What? He woke up? But the doctors said he’d be in a coma for the rest of his life!” Naomi’s face was filled with shock. Was this somehow because she’d come back to life herself? Had she triggered some butterfly effect that brought a man declared beyond hope back to consciousness?

“Guess you could say he got lucky,” Lester replied, a dangerous glint flickering in his eyes. He and his people had taken every precaution to make sure Yves wouldn’t wake up, even tampering with the incense in his room. Yet, somehow, against all odds, Yves had pulled through.

He couldn’t help but wonder if Lindsay was behind this. But she was just a pretty face—what could she possibly do?

Naomi’s worry deepened. “With him back, it’ll be hard for you to keep your footing at Quigley Enterprises.”
