At noon, Lindsay joined her colleagues in the company cafeteria. The Bloom cafeteria was known for its generous selection and beautifully presented dishes.
After picking out her lunch, Lindsay made her way to the table where the eldest employees sat. She greeted them warmly, her smile genuine.
These colleagues were old hands at Bloom—in fact, many of them had been there since the days when it was still the Nelson Group.
"You all have been with Bloom for a long time, haven’t you? Must be close to retirement by now?" Lindsay asked, her tone light.
The older employees, seeing someone their daughter’s age speaking so cheerfully, quickly let down their guard. Conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and friendly banter.
Trying to sound casual, Lindsay asked, "Today’s my first day here. I heard that Bloom used to be the Nelson Group?"
At the mention of the Nelson Group, the mood changed instantly. It was as if Lindsay had uttered some forbidden word. Without a word, the group picked up their trays and left the table.
Lindsay was left baffled. All she’d done was mention the Nelson Group—was that really enough to send everyone fleeing without so much as a goodbye?
Still, this reaction confirmed what she’d heard in her previous life: the Nelson Group’s bankruptcy clearly wasn’t as simple as it had seemed.
At two o’clock sharp, Lindsay clocked back in for her afternoon shift.
Just then, Naomi arrived at the office. Their eyes met unexpectedly, both women pausing in surprise.
Naomi shot Lindsay a glare full of resentment. She’d only taken the morning off to pick up her mother from the airport, yet when she returned, there was Lindsay—right here at Bloom!
In that instant, Lindsay finally understood why Lester had been so adamant about her not joining Bloom.
So, this was where his true love worked. Was he just worried Lindsay would hurt the woman he actually cared about?
"What are you doing here at Bloom?" Naomi snapped, her brows drawn together.
It wasn’t hard to guess that Lester hadn’t told Naomi about Lindsay’s new job.
"Lester didn’t mention it?" Lindsay replied with a sweet, deliberate smile, using his name intimately just to rile Naomi up.
