The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 57

Lester knew he was being unfair to Naomi, but now that Yves was awake, everything had spun out of control.

He reached out and gently ruffled Naomi’s hair, his voice soft. “I’m sorry. I know this isn’t easy for you, and I know Lindsay’s a ticking time bomb. But Yves is in charge of the Quigley Group now. If I stubbornly oppose Lindsay joining Bloom and this blows up in front of Yves, we’re the ones who’ll pay the price.”

Naomi clenched her fists. Jealousy burned inside her—how could this happen? After all she’d been through, Lindsay still managed to marry into the Quigley, and Yves, Lester’s cousin, now outranked her by a whole generation.

Meanwhile, all she could be was the woman in Lester’s shadow.

Why did Yves have to wake up? Why couldn’t he have just died and left her plans untouched?

Naomi masked her bitterness, wrapped her arms around Lester, and buried her face in his chest. She spoke with gentle understanding. “My problems are nothing, Lester. I just hate to see you treated this way. I’ve seen everything you’ve done for the Quigley Group these past months. Now Yves wakes up and wipes it all away, as if you never mattered. He’s just using you and discarding you as soon as he’s done.”

Lester’s expression grew darker, his eyes sharpening with anger. His resentment toward Yves only deepened.

Naomi caught the change in his face and pressed on, her lips curving into a sly smile. “If you hadn’t managed the Quigley Group so well these months, another company might have torn it apart by now. And Mr. Quigley Sr.—he’s so blatantly biased. How could he treat you like this?”

Just the mention of Mr. Quigley Sr. made Lester’s anger flare again. He gritted his teeth. “Grandfather has always favored Yves. I get that I’m just a grandson and can’t expect special treatment. But my father—he’s the eldest son, and after all these years of dedication, he’s still only a manager. It’s never enough for Grandfather.”
