York immediately denied it. "No! We haven’t spoken in years. Don’t listen to Yves' nonsense!"

Mr. Quigley, the family patriarch, shot York a furious glare and scolded him, his voice heavy with disappointment. "Throwing yourself at someone like that never ends well. Olivia is not the kind of woman you can handle. Haven’t you been burned by her enough times already?"

From his twenties to his fifties, York had tripped over the same stone with Olivia more times than anyone could count!

Honestly, with his level of common sense, if he weren’t my son, he wouldn’t even make it past the front doors of Quigley Group.

Althea might be bold and brash, but at least her feelings for York were sincere.

"Come on, Dad, you have to believe me. It’s over. We haven’t been in touch at all," York insisted, but he couldn’t help fidgeting with his pants—a nervous habit that gave him away every time.

Mr. Quigley decided to let him save face; after all, he wasn't a child anymore, and there was no need to humiliate him in front of everyone.

"Suit yourself," he said gruffly. "But don’t come running back to me crying for help when she tricks you again. I’m too old to keep cleaning up your messes."

York’s face flushed with embarrassment. He’d been itching to point out Yves' faults, but somehow the conversation had circled back to him.

He barely tasted a thing for the rest of the meal.

When dinner was over and everyone had drifted off, only Yves and Lindsay remained in the dining room.

Mr. Quigley eyed the couple with a twinkle in his eye. "I have something to discuss with you two."

Lindsay’s heart skipped. She clenched her hands, bracing herself for what was coming.

"I’ve decided to travel the world," Mr. Quigley announced. "It’s time I chased the dream I had as a young man."

Just as she feared. Lindsay had managed to stall him before, distracting him with the IVF treatments. But now that Yves was back on his feet and Mr. Quigley’s mind was at ease, he’d dusted off his old dream again.
