The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 65

Yves caught his breath, his eyes narrowing in a flash of tension. Aside from Lindsay, his only real family left was the old man.

The rest of the Quigley were relatives in name only—bound by blood, perhaps, but never by heart.

He wished the old man could live forever.

“But I already promised him,” Yves said quietly. “If I go back on my word now and give him an excuse like this, he’ll never believe me.”

“I understand,” Lindsay replied softly. “I know how much Mr. Quigley wants to fulfill his dream.”

Yves pressed his lips together, his brow furrowed deeply as he fell silent. “Let me think if there’s a way to make everyone happy,” he said, his voice weighted with concern.

Lindsay didn’t interrupt. She simply watched him, waiting.

Twenty minutes passed before Yves finally spoke again. “Didn’t you say, in your dream, the old man only got into trouble in the second month of his journey around the world?” he asked. “Maybe I can persuade him to come home by the end of the month, before anything can happen next month.”

He didn’t believe in ghosts, or fate, or the warnings of dreams. But this was different—it was Lindsay saying it, and when it came to her, he believed in a thousand impossibilities.

Lindsay raised an eyebrow. “But then it’s not really a trip around the world. It’s just a quick vacation.”

Yves hesitated, a flicker of sorrow crossing his eyes. “You and the old man are all I have left.”

Lindsay looked at him, and for a moment, memories from her previous life flooded back. After Mr. Quigley passed away, Yves fell apart. The other Quigley brothers, along with outsiders, tried to force him out of the family business.

But eventually, Yves picked himself up. He fought back—and kept the company in the family’s hands.

And in the end, he died for her.

It was only now, hearing him say, “You and the old man are all I have left,” that she truly understood how much those words meant.
