They’d been together for decades, so of course it was hard for Daniel to let go—not to mention the worry gnawing at him. But he knew this had always been hiss dream.
“Alright, alright. You’re not getting sentimental on me at your age, are you?” Mr. Quigley Sr. rapped Daniel lightly on the head, just like he used to do when Daniel was a boy caught sneaking cookies from the jar.
Daniel wiped away his tears, a crooked smile breaking through. “Guess getting old makes a man soft.”
Mr. Quigley Sr. straightened up, trying to keep his composure. “Well, I’m off. You all take care of yourselves.” He waved briskly, afraid he might tear up if he lingered, and hurried into the waiting car.
Yves and Lindsay stood side by side, watching the luxury sedan disappear down the drive, their expressions a mix of worry and unease.
Lindsay glanced over, voice low. “Are you sure we’ll have Mr. Quigley Sr. back before the end of the month?”
“If he tries to stay away, I’ll drag him back myself,” Yves replied, a determined edge to his tone. Maybe it was Lindsay’s influence, but lately Yves had been plagued by nightmares about plane crashes.
Every time he woke, his shirt was soaked in cold sweat. The dreams felt so real, as if they had already happened.
Lindsay forced a shaky smile. “That’s a bit extreme, don’t you think?”
“I’d rather be rough with him than lose him altogether.”
“Do you believe in my dreams?” Lindsay asked. Yves had always been skeptical, but now, it seemed he was starting to believe.
Yves pressed his lips together and nodded. “I dreamed it too—the crash. It was so vivid. The plane plunged straight into the ground, buried under thirty meters of earth. There was nothing left. Not even bodies.”
Lindsay’s eyes widened in shock. That was exactly how the news had reported the crash in her previous life. Could her coming back have given Yves memories of a past life too?
But Yves hadn’t known anything before Mr. Quigley Sr.’s accident last time. Had something changed?
