“I’m Ivan Bowen. I don’t have any abilities, but my younger sister, Hannah Bowen, is a mental manipulation ability user!”

As soon as the words “mental manipulation ability user” were mentioned, every single person in the room turned to look at the young woman standing beside Ivan.

Hannah Bowen, who looked to be in her early twenties, seemed to have a rather haughty attitude. Her expression clearly implied that she was unwilling to engage with the others. Looking around at the room, she picked the best lower bunk available and lay down to rest without another word.

Among the nine people in the room, two were a married couple–Čaleb Mitchell and Lilian Mercer. One was a speed–type ability user, while the other was a strength–type ability user.

Most of them were ability users, but none of them had evolved their abilities. Judging by the situation, they probably didn’t even know how the process worked.

Theresa could tell at a glance that they were only at Level 1 or Level 2 at most.

“What about you two? What’s your story?”

After they finished introducing themselves, the whole group turned to stare at Theresa and Vinny.

Theresa smiled without answering their questions. Holding Vinny in her arms, she climbed to the upper bunk.

Her attitude annoyed the others even more.

“Where did you even come from? How dare you sneak into our camp?!”

It was the apocalypse, a time when people often grouped together for safety. Many also had the tendency to reject outsiders. Once their little clique was established, they generally became extremely resistant toward newcomers.

It had not been a huge problem when they were in their own territory at the outer camp. Nobody had protested too much, especially since Herman was there to keep things in check.

But now that they were in a strange and dangerous place, the local residents quickly banded together and rejected the newcomers. They glared at Theresa and Vinny with unfriendly eyes- everyone except Steven, who simply sat on his bed without saying a word. The others seemed to consider the two women as enemies.

Theresa calmly returned their gazes, but she couldn’t be bothered to explain anything. After all, she wasn’t here to make friends. She was only here to investigate whether the inner camp was connected to the Starborn Order.

“Go ahead and shout a little louder. Or better yet, come at me.” She pointed at the surveillance camera overhead. “The people upstairs are watching everything.”

Realizing that they were being watched through the surveillance cameras, they instantly faltered. Their cocky attitudes vanished as they fell into submissive silence once more. None of them dared to utter another word.

After placing Vinny on the upper bunk on the left, Theresa moved to take the lower bunk herself. However, a man shoved her to the side.

“I’ve claimed this spot.”

He forcibly took the lower bunk and sprawled out on the bed.

The others swiftly followed suit, grabbing the rest of the lower bunks. It didn’t take long before the five lower bunks were fully occupied.

Watching their childish and foolish behavior, Theresa shrugged and moved to take the upper bunk beside Vinny.

They were living in the apocalypse, after all. Sleeping in the lower bunks only exposed them to more danger, since there were constant movements around the lower bunks. In the case of an attack, they would also be the first to be attacked if anything were to burst through the doors.

She was more than happy to let these idiots play the bait and act as human shields for her.

Climbing to the upper bunk, she settled into the bed.

The chatter among those below grew louder once Theresa was out of sight. Most of the conversation was centered around Hannah, the only mental manipulation ability user in the room–and a girl, at that.

“You’re awesome, Hannah! There aren’t many mental manipulation ability users in the camp!”

“Yeah! There’s none in our camp! Not a single one!”

“That’s amazing!”

“I heard mental manipulation abilities are very powerful! Please look out for us, Hannah!”

“Yeah! This place seems pretty dangerous. We’re counting on you, Hannah!”

“My name is Steven Hodges. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you need anything,” Steven whispered through the gap between the beds. He was sleeping on the lower bunk right beneath Theresa.
