“Don’t bother looking. He’s right here with me.” Theresa whistled toward the bathroom, and Quentin stepped out with a mask still over his eyes.

A051’s expression twisted into something complicated at that.

At the same time, hurried footsteps pounded outside the door.

“You need to run! They’ve figured you out. If they catch you, they’ll kill you!” A051 said in a panic, and Theresa and Quentin exchanged a glance in response.

Two seconds later, seven or eight uniformed men stormed into the room. But the moment they stepped inside, it was as if a mountain came crashing down on their minds. The crushing wave of mental pressure knocked them all unconscious instantly.

Half a minute later, three people in employee uniforms with keycards clipped to their chests walked out of the room.

Beep!

A keycard swiped, and the heavy gate swung open.

The one leading the way, wearing a lab coat, lifted her head slightly, and a pair of sharp, bright

showed beneath the hood. Behind her trailed someone with a face partly obscured by a blindfold. The three were none other than Theresa, Quentin, and A051.

Theresa had stripped a uniform off one of the unconscious guards and now strolled out boldly with A051 and Quentin in tow.

A051 led the way. As they reached the main exit, they almost crashed into a group of people rushing in.

“Why are you heading out? Did you catch the intruders?” someone barked.

A051 tensed instantly, but a low voice cut in before she could answer. “Hurry inside, all of you. We’re here to call for backup. Hurry! The ability user inside is strong!”

The commanding tone left no room for doubt. The group swallowed their questions and charged inside with their men, leaving Theresa and the others free to keep moving.

Outside, Theresa spotted more fresh arrivals stepping onto the island. Sure enough, the selection happened once a year, and this was another batch of poor souls about to be tested.

However, she didn’t spare them a thought. With A051 guiding and the stolen keycard in hand, she raced straight for the edge of the compound.

Another swipe–beep–and the outermost gate swung open, but the noise of pursuit already rumbled behind them.

A051 stopped short. “Go on without me! I’ll hold them off here.”

“What the hell for?”

“I’ll buy you time. There’s an oilfield nearby—swim for it and you’ll make it out. I’m entrusting her to you. If you survive, promise me you’ll look after my Vinny!” Her eyes burned with grim resolve, ready to lay down her life so Theresa could escape.

“You look after her yourself.” Theresa tightened her grip on the woman’s arm. “You’re coming with us.”

She yanked Rosanna Surth forward, dragging both her and Quentin along. Rosanna had just opened her mouth to protest that none of them would make it this way–when she froze. A warship loomed in the port ahead.

“That’s… that’s my ship!”

Alarms shrieked behind them. Using stolen cards to pass through doors could only last so long. Red lasers scanned across their backs, and the rapid thud of footsteps grew louder. A speed- type ability user was coming. Not just any–this one was a Level 6.

A swarm of white coats burst from the compound to chase them down. Theresa clamped her hands tighter on Rosanna and Quentin. And then she ran.

Her body blurred forward, straight into acceleration.

She shot ahead so fast it broke past the limits of light. The Level 6 speed–type ability user, stunned, could only gape. He had never seen anyone move like that.
