Danielle glanced at the empty riverbank and realized her towel had vanished.
She frowned slightly. Maybe Kirsten had accidentally scooped it up when she left.
The rain was coming down harder by the second. Danielle gave up waiting and climbed out of the hot spring, stepping away from the water.
Her white swimsuit clung to her skin, made nearly transparent by the rain.
The contrast of icy raindrops on her freshly warmed skin made her shiver uncontrollably.
Suddenly, she stiffened. Someone was following her—a steady, unhurried tread behind. Before she could turn, a crisp, cool scent drifted toward her.
Alexander appeared at her side. When their eyes met, Danielle was struck by the cold, distant aura he carried—like he was always a few steps removed from everyone around him.
She drew herself up and crossed her arms over her chest. “Is there something you want?”
He didn’t answer, but quietly slipped his jacket from his shoulders and settled it around hers. It was still warm from his body.
Her swimsuit was soaked and far too revealing. Not wanting to give anyone a free show, Danielle decided not to argue.
Alexander’s right hand was still bandaged—he hadn’t joined them in the hot spring.
When he lingered, Danielle’s frown deepened. Why wasn’t he off doting on his precious darling? What was he doing here, trying to make himself noticed?
Rain hammered on the umbrella above them, drumming out a sharp, relentless rhythm. The tiny space beneath the canopy felt stifling; Danielle found herself holding her breath to keep from brushing against him.
Alexander’s dark eyes lingered on her. He gently squeezed her chilled hand, his voice low and almost lost in the downpour. “You’re freezing, aren’t you?”
Goosebumps prickled Danielle’s skin. She yanked her hand away and shot him a frosty glare. “Are you insane? What’s your problem?”
Alexander didn’t react. He simply slid one hand into his pocket, his gaze unreadable. “May Day’s coming up. Don’t catch a cold—Grandma wants us back at the manor for dinner.”
He lifted the umbrella higher, silent for a beat. “Where are you headed? I’ll drive you.”
“Don’t bother.” Danielle stepped out from under the umbrella, into the rain.
He didn’t stop her.
Just then, Kirsten came trotting over with her own umbrella.
Emberwick Hotel.
After Harold dropped them off, they rode the elevator up to the top floor. Danielle’s room was at the end of the hallway; Kirsten and Gian disappeared into their own room, while Danielle continued down the corridor.
Just as she was unlocking her door, Danielle caught sight of two familiar figures ducking into a room at the far corner.
She looked away, unfazed.
After a long, hot shower, she crawled into bed and drifted off almost immediately.
—
The next morning, Danielle dressed and headed downstairs for breakfast.
She ran into Alexander and Millie emerging from that same room.
There was no question—they’d spent the night together.
Danielle pretended not to notice and walked calmly toward the elevators, waiting for the doors to open.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
