Millie listened, and for once, she had to admit Danielle seemed to have a good sense of her own limitations—quite a change from before, when Danielle always tried to punch above her weight.
It looked like Danielle had finally come to terms with her place in Alexander’s world.
Alexander just stared at her in silence, saying nothing.
Millie turned to Alexander and offered brightly, “Alex, I’ve organized plenty of anniversary galas abroad. Why don’t you let me handle this one, too? I promise I’ll make it a night to remember.”
She did have some connections with the Davidson family. Planning an event like this wouldn't be out of place for her.
Alexander remained quiet, but Danielle was already on her feet.
“If you’ve already made up your minds, then that’s settled,” she said, her voice steady as she turned to leave.
Just then, Alexander finally spoke. “Since my grandmother’s decided to let you handle it, you’d better do it well. It’s not my place to change her mind.”
Danielle froze mid-step, her back to him.
She turned a somber gaze on Alexander.
His expression was unreadable. “If you have any objections, you can take it up with her.”
Danielle instantly caught the subtext.
His grandmother’s decision was none of his business; it was between her and his grandmother. He had no intention of getting involved.
Millie’s confident smile faltered.
Alexander’s words were a clear rejection, and he hadn’t even bothered to hide it from Danielle. It was as if Millie didn’t even register in his eyes.
She’d hoped to use this gala to strengthen her network and win the family’s favor.
Danielle’s expression darkened, but she said nothing and strode out the door.
Once she’d gone, Millie turned to Alexander. “Alex, I just think your grandmother’s getting on in years. She shouldn’t have to worry about all these things anymore.”
“At her age, she deserves to relax and enjoy herself,” Millie continued. “You could easily handle everything with the Davidson family on your own.”
Alexander met her gaze, his tone unhurried, almost cool. “As long as my grandmother’s alive, she’s the head of this family.”
Millie’s breath caught.
Danielle frowned, picked up her phone, and declined the call without hesitation.
Moments later, a text came through:
Alexander: [Work on the anniversary gala proposal together with Millie.]
Danielle stared at the message, a mocking smile tugging at her lips.
She called him back immediately. “I can’t work with her. For your grandmother’s sake, I’ll only do a solo proposal. If you want Millie involved, let her do one on her own.”
Alexander didn’t reply. There was a long silence on the line.
She frowned, checked the screen—he hadn’t hung up.
She was about to end the call herself when Alexander spoke, his tone casual, almost teasing. “Are you jealous of her?”
“What?”
Danielle thought she must have misheard—what a ridiculous joke.

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
