Nearly half the people in the room assumed Jake was calling for Millie.
The moment Millie heard his words, she instinctively glanced at Alexander.
He remained impassive, his features distant and unreadable.
Their eyes met across the room, but Alexander’s expression didn’t flicker—not a hint of acknowledgment or surprise.
Millie understood right away: his lack of reaction meant silent consent. He was tacitly agreeing, confirming to everyone present that she was the one. It also meant he and Jake had reached an understanding in advance—letting her serve tea as a daughter-in-law during the Davidson Group’s anniversary celebration was a public admission of her status.
Without realizing it, everyone’s attention shifted to Millie.
Only the Davidson family members, along with a few who were in the know, glanced at Danielle instead.
Danielle paused, caught off guard by Jake’s words. It truly surprised her—Jake had never ordered her to do anything. When she brought refreshments or poured drinks, it was always out of her own willingness; he never forced her, never insisted. Especially not something like this—asking a daughter-in-law to serve tea to the elders so openly at such a formal event was completely out of character for him.
It was almost as if he was doing this on purpose.
Danielle remained perfectly still, quietly observing everything unfolding around her.
But Millie moved first.
She picked up a cup of tea and brought it forward.
Jake looked at her with a mild, indifferent gaze and simply passed her by.
“Dani, come here.” Jake motioned directly to Danielle, beckoning her over.
He didn’t even reach for the tea in Millie’s hands. Millie froze in place, her outstretched arm awkwardly hanging in the air. She couldn’t withdraw her hand, but there was no one to accept the cup. Jake had ignored her completely, right in front of everyone—leaving her utterly humiliated.
It was as if she’d imagined the entire thing. Desperate, she darted a glance at Alexander, silently pleading for help.
But Alexander was looking down at his phone, seemingly oblivious to the whole scene.
Fortunately, Jake hadn’t exposed her outright. There was still a sliver of hope left.
Under the gaze of the entire room, Danielle slowly walked over to Jake.
Jake asked, “How are things between you and Alex lately?”
Danielle had no idea why he would ask such a thing out of the blue. It was obvious he must have heard something. Even though he spent most of his time away, Jake never missed a beat when it came to the family’s affairs.
“Everything is as usual,” she answered.
“As usual?” Jake’s tone was mild, but carried an unmistakable authority.
He glanced coolly at Alexander, who was seated nearby. “Is that so? How usual?”
Alexander, hearing his father’s question, finally looked up.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
