She had never imagined this man could be so utterly heartless.
If not for his cold indifference, she would never have ended up on this path.
“In the end, you still care about her. You’re still worried about her.” Millie looked at him, a mocking smile curling on her lips. “No matter how desperately you try to protect her, it’ll never be enough.”
Alexander rose to his feet, not sparing Millie a single glance.
He strode out of the holding room.
Millie could only watch as he turned and walked away, powerless to stop him.
Even now, she struggled to believe Alexander could be so ruthless.
Were all those memories, all that history between them, just an act? Millie kept searching for some sign, some crack in his armor.
But every move, every word from him told her the same thing.
He truly didn’t care. The past meant nothing to him—those childhood bonds, all of it, had been nothing but pretense, a product of Jake’s pressure.
A bitter laugh escaped her as she slumped in the chair, the sound echoing off the cold walls.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, unchecked and silent.
—
Outside, in the police station’s corridor, Alexander leaned against the wall and lit a cigarette.
His face was a mask of indifference.
Officer Gaylord followed him out, glancing at Alexander’s rigid back.
“I thought you said you’d keep an eye on her. Why are you out here?”
Officer Gaylord replied, “She hasn’t been formally charged—we’re still investigating. She’s entitled to consult a lawyer.”
Until the court reached a verdict, there was no lawful reason to detain her.
Hiring a lawyer was her right.
“For attempted murder—”
Alexander stubbed out his cigarette, turning back. His eyes were dark and cold, voice low and chilling. “If she gets out of this alive, she’ll spend the rest of her life behind bars.”
—
Elsewhere, Leanne hurried down a back street with little Raffy in tow.
They’d been on the run for days, but never managed to make it out of the country.
Just like today.
Alexander had introduced her to so many influential people, but not one of them came to her aid when she needed it.
She’d never managed to turn those connections into her own.
Leanne knew her daughter was bright and well-educated, but she’d ruined everything by falling for the wrong man, by trusting him too much.
Millie always thought she’d made it to the upper crust, always believed she was destined to become Mrs. Davidson.
That confidence had blinded her.
“Go home,” the officer said coolly. “From now on, you’ll be under surveillance around the clock. Within the country, you’re free to move and conduct business, but you cannot leave.”
Leanne protested, “My daughter may be under suspicion, but she hasn’t been convicted! Isn’t this a bit excessive? I just wanted to take my grandson on a trip.”
The officer gave a cold laugh. “If you were really just taking your grandson on vacation, why try to sneak out of the country? Attempting to flee is a crime in itself. We can detain you for that.”
Leanne’s expression hardened.
“I did nothing wrong!”
He cut her off, his voice sharp. “Don’t try my patience. Come with us.”

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
