Jake looked at him with calm, steady eyes, saying nothing, only giving the faintest nod to urge him to continue.
Nathan drew a breath. “I want to marry Danielle. Alex is fine with it, too.”
A sharp, echoing slap cut the air.
Nathan’s words had barely left his lips.
He pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, tasting blood, and slowly raised his gaze to meet Jake’s.
Jake hadn’t held back. Half of Nathan’s face throbbed with a numb, burning pain.
His father’s face was locked in a cold, severe scowl.
“Absurd!” Jake’s chest heaved. “Do you even hear yourself right now?”
Nathan stood ramrod straight. “I know exactly what I’m saying. I’m asking for your blessing, Father.”
“You’ve lost all shame, and you’d drag the Davidson family down with you! When word gets out, what do you think people will say about us?”
Jake’s voice rang out, every word like a gavel.
Nathan dropped his gaze, falling silent for a long moment.
“If you can’t accept this, then I’m prepared to leave the Davidson family.”
Jake’s expression darkened, his features twisting.
One after another, always threatening to cut ties!
“Everyone knows you’re my son. Even if you walk out that door, you can’t erase your bloodline.”
Jake stared him down. “If you leave this house, you’re still my son, Nathan Davidson. My blood still runs in your veins.”
Nathan’s tone stayed even. “You hold a high office, Father, always so careful about your reputation, terrified someone in the family will slip up. You think my being here threatens your career. I’ve already left everything behind—what more do you want from me?”
He looked Jake straight in the eye, voice unwavering. “There’s nothing left you can do to stop me.”
With those words, Nathan turned and walked away.
Jake held his breath, chest rising and falling as anger shook him.
—
Downstairs in the living room, Alexander sat beside Danielle, composed and inscrutable.
When Nathan came down, his whole presence chilled and tense, Alexander could instantly tell the conversation had gone nowhere. Jake would never agree to something so scandalous.
“All these years, the Davidson family hasn’t treated you poorly.”
Danielle met his gaze, her expression unreadable. “Is that so?”
She felt nothing of the sort. His words struck her as a bitter joke.
“Alex didn’t treat you well, so I stepped in—I introduced you to Mr. Bob, tried to look out for you. And this is how you repay me?”
Danielle stared at him, puzzled. It sounded as if he was accusing her of something.
“If you have something to say, Mr. Davidson, say it plainly. I’m not here for riddles.”
Jake gave a short, bitter laugh.
“Why are you set on making trouble for this family?”
Danielle said nothing.
“Now Nathan wants to marry you.”
She froze, caught off guard.
Jake’s eyes bore into her. “Are you intent on tearing this family apart? Is marriage just some game to you? You married Alex, and now you think Nathan’s a better choice?”

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
