Danielle was overwhelmed by a heavy sense of helplessness at his response.
Her eyes were cold as she stared at the man in front of her, enunciating each word. “Is that really your idea of a proper answer?”
As her words faded, a strange silence descended on the room.
Their eyes met—dark, turbulent, emotion churning beneath the surface.
For a moment, the only sound was the rain drumming steadily against the window.
Neither of them spoke.
The uneasy quiet stretched on.
At last, it was Alexander who broke the silence.
“Anything else you want to ask?”
Danielle drew a slow, steadying breath, her gaze locked on him.
“You never once tried to have an honest conversation with me.”
Which meant that no matter what she asked next, there was no guarantee she’d get the truth.
A faint, inscrutable smile tugged at the corners of Alexander’s mouth as he glanced toward the window.
“Danielle, keep your distance from your brother. The truth always comes out in the end.”
His voice was calm, almost hollow.
Danielle’s fists clenched slightly at her sides.
“So what is it you’re hiding that you can’t tell me?” she pressed. “Is that why you’re acting like this?”
He warned her to be careful, but that wasn’t enough. She deserved more than cryptic warnings.
“You’re telling me to watch my back—fine, I’ll take your advice. But you owe me an explanation. What exactly am I supposed to be afraid of? Where is this danger coming from? Otherwise, you just sound like a madman. Why should I trust you at all?”
“You want to know who drugged you that night.” He looked down, took out his phone, opened a folder, and handed it to Danielle. “The answer is here.”
Danielle frowned as she took the phone from his hand.
She scrolled through the folder—reading the messages, seeing the images, the evidence laid out in front of her.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she looked up at him.
She never would have imagined—her own brother had been the one to poison her drink.
Alexander watched her, unhurried. “Now do you understand?”
“Whatever you have—whatever leverage—you only have it because you’re useful. Your ten percent stake in the Davidson Group is your greatest asset. Back then, you climbed into my bed, got exactly what you wanted, became my wife. He can use the same tricks again.”
“If there was never any real affection between you, do you really believe he wants to marry you? The man’s been overseas for years and never once reached out to you—does that sound like love?” He gave a bitter, mocking smile. “People only risk themselves for relationships that are worth something.”
Danielle tightened her grip on the phone, staring at Alexander. “So, no matter how I treated you before, you kept your distance because, to you, I was never worth anything.”

Sooooo complicated sigh* Simply pls thanks....
Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
