Danielle couldn’t help recalling how Alexander had warned her, again and again, to keep her distance from his older brother.
And now, here Nathan stood just a few feet away—his presence alone served as an answer to Alexander’s warnings.
But still.
Between the two brothers, whose words could she truly believe?
She had no way to tell.
Danielle found herself at a loss, unable to respond to anything Nathan had just said.
“It’s getting late. Let’s head back, shall we?” Nathan spoke again, noticing the silence that had settled over her. “No point dredging up the past, anyway.”
His gaze lingered on her, dark and unreadable.
Danielle wasn’t the kind to force answers out of someone. Since Nathan clearly didn’t want to talk, she wouldn’t push him.
She simply nodded in reply.
“Wait, Nathan.”
Just as they started to leave, a voice called out from behind.
They turned to see Alexander standing quietly a few steps away—calm, composed, his expression inscrutable.
Danielle glanced at him, then looked back to Nathan. “I’ll wait for you in the car.”
Nathan nodded, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. “It’s wet out—be careful on the way.”
Once Danielle walked away, only the two brothers remained.
Nathan listened, his expression unchanged, but his eyes glinted with amusement. “Do you actually care about Niki? Funny, all I’ve heard is how you dote on Millie’s child, while you make Niki call you ‘uncle.’ Doesn’t look like you care much for her to me.”
“Niki would be better off without a father like you.” Nathan’s voice was steady, almost casual. “Truth is, she’s known for a long time her father doesn’t love her. Since you can’t step up, I’ll fill that role for her.”
Alexander’s only reaction was a slight tightening of his brow, his dark eyes as cold as ever. “Congratulations, Nathan. Reusing the same old trick twice—do you really think getting close to Danielle will make her trust you?”
“If she can’t trust me, then who can she trust?” Nathan pulled a cigarette from his pocket and placed it between his lips. “I’ve risked my life for her twice. What do you think that means to her?”
His tone was even, unflappable. “I’ve heard you saved her, too, while I was overseas. But tell me—if you saved her just the same, why is it she’s never shown you an ounce of gratitude, but fusses over me as if I’m all that matters? Maybe there’s something you missed in your calculations.”
Devotion and indifference stand in stark contrast; the difference is plain to see.
Alexander gave a short, cold laugh and looked at him with cool detachment.
“Why don’t you ask yourself, Nathan—wasn’t it just a little too convenient, those two times you ‘saved’ her?”

Sooooo complicated sigh* Simply pls thanks....
Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
