Gian let out a sigh and dropped the subject.
He knew the tangled history between Danielle and Alexander ran too deep for easy explanations.
Back home, Danielle collapsed onto the couch, exhaustion washing over her in a wave. She closed her eyes, but Nathan’s words echoed relentlessly in her mind—It wasn’t him.
Could it have been Alexander?
She didn’t want to think about it. Didn’t want to unravel that knot. Everything to do with Alexander was just a mess—one that only left her frustrated and anxious.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with an urgent ring. The caller ID flashed: “Old House.”
Danielle’s heart skipped a beat. She snatched up the phone.
On the other end, the housekeeper’s voice trembled with tears. “Miss Crawford, please come quickly! Your grandmother… she suddenly collapsed. The ambulance took her to the hospital. The doctors say it doesn’t look good…”
Danielle froze, her blood turning to ice.
“Which hospital?” Her voice shook uncontrollably.
“St. Mary’s. Please, come now!”
As soon as the call ended, Danielle stumbled to her feet, grabbed her car keys, and rushed out the door.
Her grandmother had always been strong, resilient despite her age. Just last month, during a visit, she’d been laughing and chatting about family gossip. How could she suddenly collapse like this?
Danielle sped through the city, running several red lights, the world outside blurring into streaks of color. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest, her mind blank except for one desperate thought—Nothing can happen to Grandma.
Her grandmother was the only member of the Davidson family who had ever truly cared for her.
When Danielle first married into the Davidsons and struggled under the cold scrutiny of the elders, it was her grandmother who shielded her, slipping her treats on the sly and quietly reminding her, “A woman should stand on her own feet. Never let anyone look down on you.”
Later, when Danielle and Alexander divorced and everyone accused her of ingratitude, it was Grandma who called her in secret, whispering, “I know you’ve suffered. Take care of yourself.”
Minutes crawled by, each one a torturous eternity.
Finally, the emergency light above the door flicked off.
A doctor emerged, pulled down his mask, and shook his head softly. “I’m sorry. We did everything we could. She was elderly, and the heart attack was sudden. By the time she arrived, it was already too late. We couldn’t save her.”
A deafening roar exploded in Danielle’s mind. Her thoughts scattered, and all the sounds around her faded into a dull, distant hum.
She watched the doctor’s lips move, saw Jake and Bianca step forward to ask questions, saw Nathan’s brows knit in concern, but everything felt muffled, like she was trapped behind thick glass.
Grandma… was gone?
The woman who always greeted her with a smile, who hid sweets for her in secret, who comforted her in her lowest moments—just gone?
A wave of grief and dizziness crashed over her, and Danielle’s body gave way, slumping to the side, powerless to stand.

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
