Danielle tried to prepare Niki, at least in her own mind.
But after everything she’d been through, there was only one thing on her mind: getting herself and her daughter as far away from the Davidson family as possible.
A sudden knock at the door shattered her thoughts.
Knock, knock, knock—
Danielle’s body went tense. She shot a wary glance toward the door. Who could it be at this hour?
She stood up, moving silently across the carpet, and pressed her ear to the door. “Who is it?” she whispered.
“It’s me, Miss Crawford. Nash Langley,” came a low, respectful voice from the other side.
Nash had worked for Alexander Davidson for years—steady, discreet, and always reliable.
Danielle frowned. Why would Nash come looking for her now, and right outside Niki’s bedroom of all places?
She hesitated, but finally unlocked the door.
Nash stood in the hallway, dressed in a black suit. His face was unreadable, but there was a flicker of urgency in his eyes.
“Miss Crawford, Mr. Davidson sent me. I’m to escort you out.”
“Out?” Danielle stared at him, her frown deepening. “Out where? Why?”
She couldn’t help but think of her argument with Alexander earlier. She’d refused, flat-out, when he’d asked her to get back together. Was this his way of retaliating—keeping her from attending his grandmother’s funeral?
He’d told her to come, and now he was telling her to leave.
A rush of complicated emotions surged through her, and her voice turned icy. “What is that supposed to mean?”
Smoke hung faintly in the air. The stairs were crowded with panicked staff members, their faces twisted with fear as they rushed by.
“This way,” Nash urged, guiding her through a quiet side corridor. He unlocked a small, almost hidden door that led out into the old estate’s backyard.
The night air was damp and cool, sweeping away some of the smoke—and some of Danielle’s terror.
They hurried along the narrow path toward the back gate. Behind them, the main house was now ablaze, the fire lighting up the sky in a hellish red.
They’d just slipped out the back when Nathan Davidson, flanked by several men, burst into Niki’s bedroom.
He shoved the door open, staring into the empty room. His face darkened instantly, eyes flashing with a dangerous, predatory glint.
“Where are they?” he demanded coldly of the bodyguards behind him.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
