Danielle gazed down at her sleeping daughter, Niki, cradled in her arms. Her mind was a tangled mess of anxiety and doubt.
What exactly was Alexander hiding from her? Did he have something to do with that terrible fire? Or was there an even bigger conspiracy waiting to swallow them up?
She had no idea how much time had passed before the car finally turned off the main road and entered a secluded estate.
The wrought-iron gates were tall and imposing, their intricate designs glittering coldly under the car’s headlights. Two security guards stood at attention. As soon as they recognized Sammie’s car, they hurried to open the gates with practiced deference.
The car wound its way along a long, curving driveway.
“We’re here,” Rebecca announced, her voice edged with exhaustion. Sammie brought the car to a stop, then quickly got out and circled around to the passenger side. He opened Rebecca’s door and offered his hand to help her out.
But Rebecca braced herself against the car and climbed out on her own. No sooner had her feet touched the ground than she staggered, wincing in pain.
Only then did Danielle notice that Rebecca’s ankle was swollen, her gait uneven and cautious—a sprain, no doubt, from their earlier rush.
“You should stay here for now. It’s safe,” Rebecca said, steadying herself. She wore a reassuring smile, as if the throbbing pain in her ankle was nothing at all.
Danielle stepped out with Niki in her arms and glanced around.
The estate was vast, coolly elegant, and understated in its luxury—so perfectly in line with Alexander’s taste that Danielle knew instantly this was one of his homes.
Safe, Rebecca had said. But was anywhere truly safe for them now?
“Safe?” Danielle turned, fixing Rebecca with a direct stare. “Tell me, is anywhere really safe for us? And how long are we expected to stay here? Isn’t this just another kind of imprisonment?”
She was tired of being shuffled around, manipulated, kept in the dark.
From the old family home to this unfamiliar mansion, she felt like a marionette, moved from place to place without any explanation.
Rebecca’s smile faded. She paused before answering, her tone calm and unflinching. “If you don’t want to stay, you’re free to leave. I won’t stop you.”
For Niki’s sake, she couldn’t afford to gamble.
“Fine,” Danielle said at last, her voice steady and resolute. “I’ll wait for him tonight. But if he doesn’t show up by morning, I’m leaving with Niki.”
Rebecca’s lips curled into a gentle smile. She nodded. “Understood.”
With that, she offered no further argument. A few brief words more, and she turned and left.
Outside, Rebecca paused and said quietly to Sammie, “Help me, please.”
He stepped forward at once, offering his arm, careful and respectful.
Rebecca leaned into him, her body warm and soft against his side. The faint scent of her perfume lingered in the air, sweet and subtly intoxicating.

I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
