Chapter 809 Just Make the Damn Call
Stella immediately thought no way. Those two couldn’t even get through a phone call without arguing. How were they supposed to help each other?
Abraham glanced at her. “Not on good terms? You really don’t understand anything, do you?”
Stella blinked. Huh?
She’d thought she understood plenty, but the way Abraham said it made her second–guess everything. Maybe she really didn’t understand after all.
Abraham took a call and left right after.
After a moment’s thought, Stella decided to ring Marie. But Marie told her to call Eddie instead -and have him call Evie.
Stella was speechless.
“Eddie told me Evie’s in Yalvoria and that she could help protect Rianne. But when I asked him to call his sister, he refused! Then I asked my husband, and he told me to call you. Now you’re telling me to call Eddie again! It’s gone in one big circle!”
Marie was stunned. “Wait, all that just to make one call? That’s… kind of a lot.”
“You know Evie and I don’t get along,” Marie muttered.
“Abraham said you two aren’t on bad terms,” Stella replied.
Marie went silent. Not on bad terms? Please.
More accurately, she and that woman had never gotten along–not once. What did he mean “no issues“?
Still, hearing Stella sound so pitiful softened her. “Fine, I’ll call her. You want her to protect Rianne, right?”
“Yes,” Stella said quickly.
Marie sighed. “Just how many close friends do you have?”
One Tessa had already been enough to drive her crazy… and now there was Rianne too.
Honestly, Marie couldn’t shake the feeling this was another disaster waiting to happen.
“It’s just Rianne and Tess,” Stella said.
1/4
The eldest and second of her dearest friends–her inner circle.
Marie fell silent again.
Tessa had already brought Victor, that colossal headache, into her life. And now Rianne?
Marie cleared her throat. “Uh, let me ask first–does Rianne have a boyfriend?”
If she did, let him handle it.
If she called Evie and it somehow caused trouble, and the woman’s powerful boyfriend came after her demanding payback–she’d lose her mind.
It wasn’t that Marie was overly cautious; it’s just that after what happened with Tessa, she had some serious trauma.
“She… kind of does,” Stella said.
Marie frowned. “Kind of? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“They’re in the middle of breaking up,” Stella explained.
Marie fell quiet. In the middle of breaking up–so, not actually broken up yet? That was risky. What if they made
up later?
Then she’d end up looking like the villain in the story.
“Stella,” Marie said at last, “if she has a boyfriend, let him deal with it.”
No need to stick her hand into that mess; getting involved could only end badly.
“But her boyfriend isn’t helping her,” Stella said softly.
Marie hesitated.
“Please,” Stella pleaded, “you have to help Rianne. She’s miserable–her boyfriend’s family hates her, they’re even trying to kill her! She told him his family was out to kill her, and he didn’t believe her!”
Marie’s tone softened. “That’s awful. What kind of jerk does that?”
“Exactly! Total scumbag,” Stella huffed.
Marie asked, “Who’s her boyfriend?”
“Tempest.”

Marie froze.
“Wait, Tempest?”
She paused, then said firmly, “Yeah, I’m definitely staying out of this.”
Stella was stunned.
“Tempest’s notorious in Rivermount,” Marie said quickly. “The man’s impossible to deal with. I’m not poking that hornet’s nest.”
If she made one wrong move and he decided to come after her… she’d be in deep trouble.
“But he only has power in Rivermount,” Stella argued. “In Yalvoria-”
“People like that have networks everywhere,” Marie cut in. “You should stay out of it too. Be good, okay?”
“It’s just a phone call to Evie,” Stella said.
Marie hesitated. Evie…
The moment she thought of her, she remembered all those things Evie had stolen from her- and how she’d never returned them.
But Stella was right–it was just a phone call.
