The moment Artemis heard Tessa’s name again, her tone turned sharp with resentment. That little wretch….

She had been generous enough to let the girl return to Black Mountain, yet Tessa had stabbed her in the back again and again.

Ever since they’d come to Redwood, this was the second time Dale had brought up how the children didn’t look like him. Tessa was just like her mother. She always acted indifferent, but deep down, she wanted to take everything for herself.

Artemis forced down the fury burning in her chest. “Dale, please don’t burden our children with that kind of doubt. They’re still young; their lives are just beginning.”

Dale’s expression stayed cold. “People have been questioning them for years, and you didn’t care. Now one simple DNA test is somehow going to ruin their reputation?”

The tension between them thickened like smoke. They had never truly fought before… but now they were at war.

Artemis looked at him, her voice trembling with hurt. “Before, it was outsiders saying those things. But this time—it’s their father. How can that be the same?”

“The test will be done,” Dale said, voice low and unyielding. “Whether you like it or not.”

Artemis froze.

She was stunned by the sudden force in his tone; she couldn’t believe he was dismissing her thoughts so easily, treating her words as if they meant nothing. How had things turned into this?

Because of Tessa… it had to be because of her. Ever since that girl came back, Dale—her husband, her partner–had stopped respecting her.

Hatred surged in Artemis‘ heart; she wanted to tear Tessa apart, to shred her into pieces.

Dale’s gaze was glacial. “Or is it that you don’t want the test… because you’re afraid of what it’ll

show?”

“You-”

His words struck like a whip.

And because of it, Dale’s determination only hardened. The test would be done.

Meanwhile, Black Mountain had descended into chaos.

Dale and Artemis‘ argument was the worst they had ever had; the entire family could feel the tension boiling between them.

Meanwhile, on the other side–Derrick and Marie continued working in perfect sync with Victor. Every time Victor made a move against Ashen Pact, they followed up immediately.

In just a short time, both Marie and Derrick had gained significantly.

Some assets weren’t fully under their control yet, but with their growing influence and manpower–plus Ashen Pact being too unstable to defend itself–they were able to seize territories with little resistance.

Even when things didn’t go smoothly, their side was clearly gaining the upper hand.

Marie was on the phone with Stella, one hand pressed over her mouth.

“Evie’s already met Rianne,” Stella said with a laugh. “And the moment she saw her, she started calling her sister–in–law. Rianne told me Evie’s been completely fooled by you.”

At first, Rianne hadn’t wanted Evie calling her that.

But Evie had told her that if she wanted to shake off Tempest, she’d better pretend to be her sister–in–law…

Ugh. The whole situation gave Stella the impression that Marie had completely tricked Evie- and now Evie was dragging Rianne into the act, too.

Marie chuckled weakly. “That’s good news, isn’t it? Sounds like Evie’s gone crazy missing her

sister–in–law!”

Stella sighed. “You’re taking advantage of her soft spot for you. I swear, one day she’s going to chase you down for this.”

Marie snorted. “What’s there to be afraid of? We’ve been fighting for years. And honestly, after all the times she’s screwed me over, don’t I deserve a little payback?”

“You’re stabbing her right in the heart, you know.”

Stella couldn’t help but worry that Evie might actually lose her mind and come after Marie for real.

Marie rolled her eyes. “And what about before? Didn’t she stab me in the heart first? I spent all that time trying to find you back then—”

But that deadbeat Evie had double–crossed her instead.

“What’s wrong?” Stella asked quickly, alarmed. “Are you okay?”

“My stomach’s acting up,” Maric muttered. “Lately I can’t eat anything without feeling sick. I’ll call you later–I need to throw up.”

She hung up before Stella could respond.
