Artemis fell silent

The moment those words left his mouth, her mind collapsed with a deafening roar.
Her pupils contracted sharply as she stared at Dale, the world draining of all color around her.
She could hardly believe what she was hearing–couldn’t believe he was the one saying it.
“A DNA test.?”
What kind of test is that, really? It is the beginning of distrust–of love cracking down the middle. After all years together… now he doesn’t trust me? Her breathing quickened; her lips parted, trembling as if to speak–but when she met the icy stare in Dale’s eyes, not a single word would come out.
Instead, it was Dale who spoke first.
He looked at her coldly, every syllable precise and cutting. “You agreed to it before, didn’t you? To the DNA test.”
That day, when he’d asked why the twins didn’t look like him—she’d been so angry she’d told him to go ahead and get tested.
Now every word he spoke carried such gravity, such certainty, that Artemis didn’t even dare nod.
She was almost certain that the second she said fine, Dale would summon the family doctor, order blood drawn, and start the comparison immediately. No, I can’t let that happen…
Her body trembled–not from outrage, but from guilt. Yet what showed on her face was fury.
“What did Tessa do to you?” she shouted. “What did she say that made you stop trusting me the moment you saw her?”
Her voice cracked; her eyes brimmed with tears as she glared at him in disbelief and despair.
She wanted to use that hurt–to guilt him, to scare him, to make him back down.
But this time… Dale looked utterly resolved, determined to end every whisper and doubt that had haunted him for years.
“We’ll talk after the test,” he said firmly.
His tone left no room for negotiation.

Chapter 823 5wah Me If You Dare
For years, people had said the twins were ugly–that they didn’t look like him at all
And though he’d never truly considered a DNA test before… this time felt different.
The rumors weren’t whispers anymore; they were close, loud, inescapable.

He’d heard them himself–again and again. That the children were unattractive, nothing like him. That even the man Artemis had cheated with must have been hideous.
Each word stabbed deep, like thorns sinking into his chest.
He suddenly wanted that test more than anything–wanted proof to show the world the truth.
That the children were his.
He’d convinced himself that only a DNA test could silence the gossip and give him peace.
Artemis, seeing how unshakable he was, drew a sharp breath. “Do you have any idea what happens after a test like that?” she demanded.
“How do you think the world will see Lana and Lina then? They’ll be known as the daughters whose own father doubted them. That stain will follow them for life! Do you really want them to live under that kind of shame forever?”
Panic slipped into her voice; she was grasping at anything now–arguing from the children’s side, trying desperately to stop him.
But Dale’s eyes only grew colder. “If the results show they’re mine, how exactly would that make them hold their heads low?”
Artemis froze.
He went on, voice tight with anger. “People have been whispering for years that they’re not my blood. Has that helped them hold their heads high?”
He was furious, yes–but not blind. He saw through her argument with painful clarity.
And his pointed question left Artemis speechless. Yes… how many times had people doubted the twins‘ parentage?
“But you always ignored those rumors!” she stammered. “Why now? Why suddenly insist on a test? What will that do to them?”
“Is it really they who can’t face the truth,” Dale cut in coldly, “or is it you who can’t?”
His words cut through the air like a blade.
