Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 411

“No one from the Ford family even told you?” Zoey asked, a hint of anger in her voice.

After a moment of stunned silence, Zinnia managed a casual smile. “We’re divorced. There’s really no reason for them to tell me.”

“That’s true, but given what happened between you two…”

“It’s fine. I’m just glad he’s awake,” Zinnia said, cutting her off with a cheerful demeanor that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I have to get to surgery. I’ll see you later.”

She walked away before Zoey could say another word, the smile fading from her face the moment she turned.

Five days. Why hadn’t anyone told her Landon was awake? Why did she have to find out from the news? Was it because… because the Fords finally blamed her for what had happened to him? Or… was this what Landon wanted?

Despite the questions swirling in her mind, a genuine happiness bloomed in her chest. The enormous weight that had been pressing down on her for so long finally lifted.

That evening after work, Zinnia went to Enliven Private Hospital. A nurse told her Landon was at the rehabilitation center. When she got there, she saw a familiar figure through the large window of the rehab room.

Because of the extensive tissue death on his back, he had undergone a massive skin graft and now had to endure physical therapy to regain function. Zinnia stood outside, the floor-to-ceiling windows giving her a clear view of the man struggling through his exercises.

Sweat dripped from his clenched jaw, staining his shirt a darker shade. Even without hearing him, she could imagine the low, pained grunts escaping his lips. The muscles in his back contracted like rusted gears. Every inch he lifted himself seemed to be fighting an invisible weight, his entire body trembling from the strain.

A sharp sting pricked Zinnia’s eyes.

Suddenly, as if sensing her presence, the man inside stopped and turned his head in her direction. Zinnia started to raise her hand to wave, but his gaze rested on her for only a fraction of a second before he turned away.

Her hand froze in mid-air. She stood there, stunned.

Was he… angry with her? The once proud, arrogant man who had commanded every room he entered was now struggling just to bend over. And it was all because of her. He had every right to resent her. He must regret saving her. Why else would he look at her with such a blank expression and turn away?

Zinnia lost track of how long she stood there watching. She was broken from her thoughts when his strength gave out, his arms buckling as he collapsed onto the equipment.

“Landon.”
