Too Good for You: The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 145

The moment Lola returned to the Fuller residence, Clifford asked her about the event.

Lola felt a sudden surge of anger, feeling like Clifford was only able to rely on her to draw resources. Compared to the considerate and generous young bachelor, Asher, Clifford seemed all the more useless.

She said helplessly, "Clifford, I just got back from the event. I haven't even had time to rest, and you're already asking me about it. You don't care about me at all. You didn't even ask me if I'm tired. Is profit the only thing you care about?"

Clifford immediately apologized when he heard that. "Sorry, Lola, I was just worried about you. That's why I sounded impatient."

If Lola hadn't said that men weren't allowed to accompany her, Clifford would definitely have gone along.

Lola frowned. "Didn't I already line up two companies for cooperation? Haven't they approached you to sign the contracts?"

Noticing how frustrated she seemed, Clifford quickly replied, "They did, the contracts have already been signed. What I meant was, now that we've secured partnerships and steady orders, you don't need to exhaust yourself running around at events anymore."

Clifford added, "You can just stay home and enjoy yourself. Leave the outside matters to me."

Lola could tell that he was attempting to flatter her, but she wouldn't be fooled so easily.

She sneered. "The company was on the verge of collapse before. I had no choice but to claim the name of Quake. If you really could manage everything, I wouldn't have needed to worry so much."

How could Clifford not hear the disdain in her voice?

He leaned in, wanting to be intimate with her.

Lola pushed him away. "I'm too tired. Right, there's something else I need to tell you."

Her expression was unchanged as she said, "During the event, in order to build a connection with the Cobalt Club, I gave our racing team to their leader. This isn't an opportunity that comes often. Since you were the one who first invested in the team, I thought you should know."

Though his initial investment had only been one million, he had added quite a bit more over time.

After all, a racing team wasn't cheap to maintain.

Clifford froze. It was obvious he didn't expect her to give the racing team away.

His expression darkened, but Lola said, "This is a necessary path for us to take to enter high society. I didn't tell you beforehand, but I think you'll understand why I made that decision, right?"

Clifford's expression shifted for a few seconds before he slowly calmed down. He smiled faintly, "I understand. You've been managing everything, and I'm just someone to reap the benefits. How could I possibly complain?"

Even now, there were a few people within his circle who said he was living off Lola.

But he had personally gone to negotiate every deal; Lola had only made introductions. Running those negotiations by himself made him realize how tough it was. He had to endure all sorts of disdain and ridicule.

Noelle had been the one who handled such matters back then. Yet, Noelle had never once complained to him.
