The group found a place to sit. Lola handed the contract to Noelle, while Lucas grinned. "From now on, our whole racing team will be under Ms. Lucy's lead."
Noelle skimmed through the contract and gave a faint smile. "I don't think this contract meets the standards."
Before Lola or Lucas could react, she turned to Lola. "I only agreed to take over the team itself. I never said I'd take responsibility for the drivers."
She leaned back lazily in her chair and calmly said, "Since this is a transfer of ownership contract, the drivers' basic information should be included. I don't even know who they are. If I take over this team and the drivers keep losing money, wouldn't I just be shooting myself in the foot?"
She passed the contract to Georgia beside her. "Take a look as well. Tell me if you see the same loophole."
Georgia read it over carefully, his expression turning serious. "Ms. Lucy, it's true. The contract doesn't mention how the drivers will be managed, nor does it cover their salaries."
Noelle let out a soft, amused laugh and looked at Lola. "Quake, I'm a businesswoman. If all I'm inheriting is management rights, and your drivers demand sky-high salaries, am I supposed to just meet their every demand?"
She knew all too well that without proper negotiations about the drivers, she'd be walking straight into trouble. If Lola had already signed inflated contracts with them, and Noelle refused to honor those terms after taking over, she'd be the one held liable for breach of contract.
Lola's expression stiffened. She hadn't expected Lucy to catch on so quickly.
She and Lucas had planned it all out. Once Lucy took over, she would be responsible for keeping the team running, regardless of its results. Lucas, as captain, would look for every opportunity to squeeze money out of her. The contracts were filled with project-based expenses such as attendance bonuses, stipends, equipment allowances, and training fees. Every one of them was real money.
Even if the team collapsed, Lucas and the drivers would have already cashed in long before Lucy shut it down. After that, Lucas could take his crew and start again under a new banner. To them, Lucy was nothing more than easy money waiting to be carved up.
Lucy had seen through their ploy in an instant.
Lola forced an awkward smile. "Ms. Lucy, I think you misunderstood. Our drivers' salaries are all at market rate. No one is overpaid. Besides, with Lucas leading the team, operations have generally stayed profitable."
