Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 27

The once-boisterous reporter now fell silent, shrinking into his chair like a child called to the principal’s office.

He had only dared to raise his voice in front of Aurora—a woman, after all. Now, with Daniel standing right there, he was as timid as a mouse, not daring to utter another word.

Daniel strode over to Aurora’s side, fixing the reporter with a cold, unforgiving stare. “We will not accept any kind of mediation. We’re pressing charges, and we won’t stop until justice is served.”

On the way over, Daniel had already learned everything that had happened.

Anyone who hurt his wife would pay for it.

The reporter shot to his feet in a panic, but whatever he thought better of, he quickly sat back down, looking oddly more relaxed than before.

He didn’t bother defending himself.

But Daniel seemed to read his mind, letting out a derisive chuckle. “Don’t count on anyone bailing you out. I’m not backing down.”

The reporter just looked indifferent.

He was only here on someone else’s orders—that was why he’d felt so bold with Aurora. Now, thinking of the people backing him, Daniel’s threats didn’t faze him in the least.

Daniel crouched to check Aurora’s ankle, then scooped her gently into his arms and carried her out.

Aurora stayed silent, saying nothing at all.

Outside, as they reached the car, she spotted Eleanor waiting.

“Aurora!” Eleanor hurried over, her face etched with worry. “Are you alright?”

She was clearly anxious. “Dan heard something happened to you. He rushed right over.”

Aurora’s reply was cool, tinged with sarcasm. “How very thoughtful of Mr. Chambers to take time out of his busy schedule to check on me.”

Eleanor fell silent, lost for words and visibly flustered.

“Let’s get you to the hospital,” Daniel said flatly.

At the hospital, after Aurora’s examination, she had barely set her foot on the ground when Daniel came in and swept her up again.

As they reached the doorway, Eleanor bit her lip and approached, glancing at Daniel before turning to Aurora. “How’s your ankle, Aurora?”

Aurora’s dark eyes fixed on her, expression unreadable, making no move to answer.

Eleanor, looking wounded, forced a smile. “Please, don’t get the wrong idea. Dan and I were just on a business trip. I was running a fever, and he just helped me out, that’s all.”

Aurora tugged at Daniel’s sleeve, her voice cool and distant. “Can we go? My foot hurts.”

Daniel’s gaze lingered on her forced smile, then drifted to the necklace she’d set aside. Frustration simmered in his chest, threatening to boil over.

“Aurora, is there really any need to act like this?”

She blinked, genuinely puzzled. What was wrong with her behavior?

She didn’t question or make a scene—wasn’t that what he always wanted?

She remembered the month Eleanor had returned from abroad. Back then, Aurora had cried and argued, only to have her calls ignored, left to face being kidnapped alone, losing their child in the storm.

He’d despised her for being unreasonable. Now that she no longer made a fuss, why was he still angry?

After a moment, she said calmly, “You told me you wanted to help her career. I understand.”

Daniel felt his breath catch, stuck somewhere between his chest and throat, unable to go up or down.

Aurora didn’t want to waste her energy on Daniel and Eleanor’s issues. They had more important things to discuss.

“You promised we’d talk when you got back. Let’s do it now.” She kept her voice gentle but steady, looking up quietly at her husband.

Daniel, in a foul mood, snapped, “I told you—if you showed up at the airport, we’d talk. Did you?”
