Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 28

Aurora’s carefully maintained composure nearly unraveled. “I was at the police station then.”

He knew that.

Daniel stood tall and unyielding, his voice calm and measured. “And?”

And? What did he want from her?

Aurora stared at him, face unreadable. “I couldn’t make it.”

“If you can’t manage that, then I see no reason to keep my promises,” Daniel replied coolly, turning to leave. “I’ll be at the office. Get some rest.”

“Stop!” Aurora shot to her feet, desperate to catch up with him, but pain flared in her ankle and left her rooted to the spot. Her eyes reddened as she called out to his retreating back, voice cracking. “What will it take for you to finally agree to a divorce?”

Daniel didn’t even glance over his shoulder. “Depends on my mood.”

With long strides, he left.

“Daniel!” Aurora’s voice broke as she hobbled after him.

The pain in her ankle overwhelmed her, and she collapsed by the door.

“Ma’am!” The housekeeper cried out in alarm.

Daniel’s figure paused for the briefest moment, but he didn’t look back. He got in his car and drove away from the house.

Aurora sat slumped on the floor, unable to hold back her emotions any longer. The tears came in heavy sobs.

All she wanted was an answer. Was that so much to ask?

Why did he have to be so cruel?

“Ma’am…” The housekeeper gently helped Aurora up, confusion written all over her face. Mr. Chambers loved his wife so much—why did Mrs. Chambers want a divorce?

No wonder she’s been so unhappy lately, the housekeeper thought.

Daniel didn’t come home that night.

Aurora didn’t sleep, either.

Her pillow was soaked and dried and soaked again, over and over. She never realized she had so many tears in her.

By morning, her eyes were swollen and puffy.

As she pressed a cold spoon to her eyelids, her phone rang. It was Una, and her tone was grave. “Something’s happened. Daniel’s affair is trending online.”

The spoon slipped from Aurora’s hand and clattered onto the couch. Her voice was hoarse. “What?”

“It’s a long story. Just check the news,” Una said, and Aurora could hear a hint of grim satisfaction in her voice. “Frankly, he had it coming.”

The assistant’s area was a hive of frantic activity.

Even so, someone noticed her and hurried over. “Mrs. Chambers.”

“Is Mr. Chambers in?”

“He’s in a meeting right now. Would you like—”

“I’ll wait in his office.”

The assistant hesitated, “The office is locked.”

Aurora waved it off, heading to the lounge to wait.

She sat there for a full hour.

Finally, the PR director messaged her back, and Aurora stood up to find her.

Just as she stepped out, she noticed Daniel’s office door was ajar.

Maybe his meeting was over? Instinctively, Aurora moved closer.

She had only just reached the doorway when she heard the soft, broken sound of Eleanor crying inside.
