Drusilla felt his grip tighten around her neck, but she didn't resist. "What's it gonna be? You gonna choke me to death? Go ahead, make my day! Even in death, I won't let you off the hook!"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she stared back at him.
No one knew the hell she'd been through these past few years. If it weren't for her two little angels and her best friend Verena, she figured she'd be six feet under by now.
Harlan caught sight of her teary eyes and hesitated for a moment before releasing his grip. He pulled out a handkerchief, wiping his hands as if she had dirtied them.
He stood there, looking all high and mighty, like he was somehow better than her. "Just keep your mouth shut about what happened between us to the Taylors, and we'll both be fine. Spill the beans, and we're both damned."
With that, he got back into his car and drove off into the night.
A cold breeze swept through, chilling Drusilla to the bone.
"Summer nights," she muttered to herself. Ever since having the kids, she felt colder, more vulnerable.
Rubbing her arms for warmth, she walked towards her apartment complex, checking her phone on the way. A new message popped up from her stepmother, Hestia.
[Drusilla, your father's ill and in the hospital. You should come.]
Ever since the divorce from Harlan and the birth of her children, she hadn't gone back home. Her father disowned her, refusing to have anything to do with her. But now, knowing he was sick, she couldn't help but worry.
Drusilla's mom had passed away when she was very young, leaving her father to raise her on his own.
Seeing the message, Drusilla quickly replied, asking how he was.
[He's at Premier Hospital. Come and see him.]
Hestia was actually Odette's mother; she had married Drusilla's father later on, bringing along her daughter, Odette.
