"You’ve really got yourself a gem of a dad!" Enoch's tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Lately, he'd been hanging around with Drusilla, not giving a second thought to all the drama. But out of nowhere, he found himself on the receiving end of her father's disdain—again!
Seeing Enoch's brooding face, Drusilla knew he wasn't about to sing praises. "What did my dad say to tick you off this time?"
Enoch shot Drusilla a cold smirk. "He told me to break it off with you, claimed I'm not good enough for his little princess."
Drusilla couldn't help but laugh at Enoch's words. She had thought her father wasn't fond of her and misunderstood her, but now, he'd go as far as badmouthing Enoch to his face!
It seemed, in his own twisted way, he did care about her. After all, only a father could place his daughter on such a high pedestal.
Before Drusilla's laughter subsided, Enoch's hand was already on her chin and gripped firmly. "And you find this funny? Do you agree with him? Is it that I'm not your perfect knight in shining armor, and I don't deserve you?"
Drusilla met Enoch's gaze, unflustered. Beneath his facade of pride lay a fragile ego.
She smiled gently, "Why would you even think that? Enoch, you're exceptional. Just wait until you have a daughter of your own; you'll feel the same way. Kids are always the best in their parents' eyes. My dad, he just loves me in his way."
She sighed, a mix of frustration and relief in her voice. "Truth be told, my dad and I haven't really talked these past few years. He thought I cheated and thought I was a disgrace. I thought he despised me, but hearing this from you, it's kind of a relief."
Her relationship with her father had always been a thorn in her heart. After having her own kids, she often reminisced about her childhood – those swimming lessons and bike rides with her father...
She feared that the Harlan incident would sever their bond for good.
