Drusilla had just helped him get into his pants when she glanced over and asked, "Want some water?"
It's not like she was asking for money. Why the hostility?
"Sure," Enoch replied.
Drusilla headed to the kitchen to pour him a glass of water and brought it back to him.
Enoch looked at her, his eyes filled with a cautious wariness as if he expected her to jump at him any moment.
Seeing her stand by, watching him, he said, "When you’re not treating me, stay away from me a bit."
"Okay." Drusilla obediently walked away. She wasn't keen on being close either.
Seeing her comply so easily made him feel like something was off.
…
In the afternoon, Drusilla picked up Colton and Cormac from preschool on time. Thanks to Enoch's promise about her salary, she was in a good mood and took Colton and Cormac out for what was usually an expensive treat they seldom indulged in but the kids absolutely loved—steak.
"Mom, did you win the lottery?" Cormac asked Drusilla in the restaurant.
Colton looked at Drusilla with equal curiosity.
It was unusual for their mom to take them out for steak!
Drusilla coughed and explained to the two eager faces, "Mom got a job, and the boss is pretty generous."
"Does the boss like you?" Cormac asked.
Drusilla rolled her eyes at Cormac and said, "Don't talk nonsense!"
"You're so pretty, Mom. It's normal if the boss likes you. But, Mom, you have to protect yourself. I don't want you to meet another bad man!"
The way Cormac emphasized "another" reminded Drusilla painfully of Harlan.
Speaking of Harlan, as if fate had planned it, she actually spotted him. He was with Lilith, who was clinging to his arm, looking utterly infatuated.
