Harlan looked like he was chewing on something bitter, finally breaking the silence, "You must be dying to know why things went south with her, right? When we were together, I treated her like a queen, but she... she cheated on me, and had those two kids with another man."
Drusilla’s smile twitched involuntarily. For some reason, she wasn’t surprised at all.
Back when his mom would badmouth her, he kept mum. Now, he's spinning this tale to cheer up his lovely wife and clear his name. Somehow, it all made sense.
After all, Harlan had always been a selfish guy!
Harlan went on, "My mom’s been holding a grudge about it, so she couldn’t stand her. Saw her today and exchanged a few harsh words, then all hell broke loose. Those kids jumped in, attacking my mom. Can you imagine? I had to step in. They were about to break my mom’s finger! Drusilla was the one who cheated. After our divorce, she left with nothing, but she’s been bitter about it, harassing me for years, demanding the house back, or she’d make sure I couldn’t be with anyone else. Her showing up at the Taylor estate... it’s for me. I mean, what are the odds, right? Just as we got married, she turns up as a 'healer'? I knew her; she didn't know the first thing about healing back when I met her! That’s why I doubted her skills and wanted her gone... but then, thanks to Uncle Enoch...”
He sneakily glanced at Enoch and then continued, “To this day, I don’t know how she managed to fool Uncle Enoch and stay at the Taylor estate.”
After Harlan's spiel, everyone looked at Drusilla differently.
Cheating, having kids, divorce, blackmail, and even showing up at the Taylor estate to swindle and deceive, it all sounded incredibly vile.
