Urging Him to Get a Divorce novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

[I asked Xavier, and he said you two didn’t use any protection that night. The Fortune Teller said you would definitely get pregnant.]

Aveline heard her phone buzz with a message in her purse but ignored it. Miranda, in the passenger seat, asked:

Do you want me to check it for you?

Aveline said no and glanced at the rearview mirror.

After getting in the car, her maternal grandparents had been silent, which made Aveline uneasy and worried.

The car wasn’t the right place to talk anyway. She’d wait until she got her grandparents home.

When they arrived home, Aveline and Miranda each supported one of the silent elders into the house.

Aveline asked, Collin, Paulina, what would you like to eat? Miranda can make it.

She was worried her grandparents hadn’t eaten enough.

Collin shook his head. I don’t have an appetite, and I’m not hungry. I ate quite a bit tonight.

Paulina sighed. That Southern Riverstyle Cuisine restaurant was really good.

Aveline replied, If you like it, I’ll take you there again some other day.

As she spoke, Aveline studied Collin’s expression, wondering if she should check his blood pressure, but she was afraid he was still angry and wouldn’t be willing, and might even lash out.

Looking at his face, Collin’s face wasn’t red, though.

Collin noticed Aveline’s gaze and said, You don’t have to worry about me. I was angry at the restaurant, but I’m not going to let that bastard Jacob make me faint from anger.

I’ll definitely live longer than Jacob and see what becomes of him.

With that, Collin snorted heavily and slapped the arm of the sofa.

Aveline quickly responded, Yes, yes, of course. You’ll definitely live longer than Jacob. Just like you, I want to see what becomes of him too.

And what becomes of Courtney.

Paulina said, If you want to live a long life, then don’t let Jacob provoke you into getting angry.

Then, she looked at Aveline and asked, Courtney’s belly is so big. Is she pregnant again?

Aveline said flatly, Mhm, yes.

Paulina’s face fell, and she said no more.

She had cared about her dignity her whole life and couldn’t bring herself to curse anyone.

Aveline used to be like her grandmother and her mother, always concerned with dignity. Not anymore. There was no need to be overly kind to people with no morals.

So she said, She couldn’t keep the last one, she might not be able to keep this one either.

Collin said, So what if she gives birth? Can a child raised by them turn out decent?

Aveline pressed her lips together and didn’t speak.

She had to make something of herself, for her own sake and for her grandparentssake, build a career, and never let Jacob, Courtney, or Josephine look down on her.

Aveline didn’t feel right leaving, so she stayed with her grandparents until they had showered and gone to bed. After giving Miranda some instructions, she finally left for Parkview Estates.

Back at Parkview Estates, as she walked into the living room, she saw Xavier sitting on the sofa, his dark eyes watch- ing her without a ripple of emotion.

Aveline walked coldly toward the stairs, ignoring him.

Xavier asked, Are your maternal grandparents doing okay?

Without turning back, Aveline said coldly, Do you really care?

Xavier got up and followed her, blocking her at the foot of the stairs in just a few steps, looking down at her.
