Jessica said, Let’s go straight to the Beltran Hotel. I’ve booked the same suite you stayed in last time.

Aveline and the others were taken aback.

They had originally thought they would be staying at the construction site with the rest of the project team, or in a nearby hotel.

They were staying for a long time on this trip, and staying at the Beltran Hotel seemed a bit too extravagant.

Jessica smiled. Mr. Harmon specifically instructed that we couldn’t have you staying at the construction site. The nearby hotels aren’t as highend as the Beltran Hotel, and not as comfortable.

Jasmine and Julian both looked at Aveline, waiting for her to make a decision.

Aveline said, We’re getting such a high design fee, we can’t let Crestmark spend even more to put us up in such a nice hotel. That’s not right. We’ll pay for the hotel ourselves.

Jessica smiled teasingly. Crestmark can certainly afford this small hotel expense. Don’t be so polite.

Let’s go.

The group arrived at the Beltran Hotel and checked in. Jessica told them to rest first and that they would have lunch together. Then she added that there was no rush to go to the site today; they could rest up and go the next day.

Aveline replied, It’s only an hour or two drive. We don’t need to rest that long. We can go see the site this afternoon.

To make them comfortable, the Crestmark booked three rooms, one for each of them.

Aveline went into her room, opened her suitcase, and started unpacking.

Her phone on the bed rang. She glanced up and saw it was Xavier calling.

She ignored it and continued to unpack her clothes.

Then, a text alert went off. She figured it was from Xavier and didn’t check. She only picked up her phone after she finished unpacking.

Xavier: [Where are you?

Changed the password to the studio?]

Aveline’s face fell. She couldn’t figure out what that guy was up to, going to her studio.

She was about to put her phone down when another message came from Xavier: [My uncle is in the hospital. We have to go visit him. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.]

This was Xavier’s paternal uncle, his father’s older brother. He wasn’t as talented as his father, so Rupert didn’t like him. He just held a powerless, honorary director position at the, with no shares.

Besides, Xavier’s uncle wasn’t in good health. He was always needing shots or medication and ended up in the hospi- tal at least once a year.

Xavier knew better. He knew she wouldn’t agree to visit his uncle, so he went straight to her studio to pick her up without saying anything.

He never expected she would already be at Mount Ardwood.

Aveline didn’t reply to the message.

A while later, Xavier called again, but she still didn’t answer.

After that, there were no more calls or texts from him. It seemed he had given up.

At noon, Aveline and her two companions had lunch with Jessica at the Beltran Hotel. They planned to head to the site at twothirty in the afternoon, after a break.

Aveline wasn’t one for afternoon naps, so she browsed the boutique on the hotel’s ground floor, looking for a birthday gift for Rupert.

She was looking at a pair of carved jade figurines, valued at over a million. It wasn’t an expensive gift for Rupert, but it was for her.

But she figured this would be the last birthday gift she ever gave Rupert. She had always put a lot of thought into them, so this final one had to be special.
