Aveline nodded. “No, not yet. But my lawyer sent the divorce papers to him. I’ll get this done as soon as I wrap up my work here in the next few days.”

Julian’s tone turned serious. “You’re still married, and you just walked into another man’s room. Xavier might misunderstand.”

Aveline let out a soft laugh. “So what if he does? He doesn’t care about me anyway.”

As she spoke, a faint sadness tugged at her.

Deep down, she’d once hoped Xavier would misunderstand and that he’d care.

But even if he did now, it no longer mattered to her.

“Good night, Julian.”

She turned, opened the door, and walked out.

The next morning, Aveline and Jasmine went to Julian’s door, ringing the bell to ask him to join them for breakfast.

Almost at the same time, the doors to Josephine’s, Vincent’s, and Eileen’s rooms opened, and the three stepped out.

The moment Vincent and Eileen saw Aveline and Jasmine, their faces darkened.

Josephine shot Aveline a cold glance, then linked arms with Eileen and headed for the elevator.

Vincent snapped, “Can’t you even say hello when you see your cousins? You’re getting more and more rude.”

Eileen sneered. “Vincent, Mrs. Beltran thinks she’s too good for us poor relatives now, doesn’t she?”

Aveline felt like she’d run into a couple of lunatics first thing in the morning. She barely held back the urge to roll her eyes.

She and Xavier were getting divorced. Vincent and Eileen must have known that, yet they still used the title “Mrs. Beltran” to mock her. She knew they meant to provoke her.

She saw Jasmine was about to snap, so she said calmly, “They’re just some distant poor relatives. Not worth getting worked up over.”

Jasmine heard this, lowered her head, and let out a quiet laugh.

Julian had just opened his door and walked out. He caught the end of their conversation, looking confused. “Huh?”

Aveline smiled. “It’s nothing. Let’s go.”

The three of them walked to the elevator, and it arrived right away.

The doors slid open. Josephine, Vincent, and Eileen stepped in first, with Aveline and the others following.

The first three didn’t press any floor number, so Julian had to step forward and press the button for the first floor.

The elevator began to descend.

Behind Aveline and her friends, Josephine let out a yawn.

Eileen asked, “Josie, why are you yawning? Didn’t sleep well last night?”

Josephine sighed softly. “I stayed awake with Xav the whole night.”

Vincent laughed. “The whole night?”

Josephine feigned shyness. “Vin, are you thinking dirty thoughts?”

Her eyes, though, drifted to Aveline’s back.

“How can we not associate with something else?” Vincent joked.

Josephine glanced at Aveline again. “My darling was in a bad mood. I comforted him all night.”

“Really? What kind of comfort did you give him?” Eileen prodded.

“Hmph, I’m not telling you,” Josephine teased.

Jasmine whispered under her breath, “Bullshit.”

Aveline stared at the elevator numbers, her face expressionless. She knew Josephine was saying all this just for her.
