And just like that, as Aveline and Jasmine were getting some salad, Josephine and Courtney walked over.

Courtney glanced at the bowl of salad, then looked Aveline’s stomach up and down.

“Not pregnant, are you? You wouldn’t dare eat raw food if you were. Aren’t you afraid of a miscarriage?”

Actually, the salad was for Jasmine. Aveline wasn’t eating it, not because she was worried about being pregnant, but because her stomach was upset.

Aveline’s expression was cold; she ignored Courtney.

Jasmine wanted to snap back, but she remembered Aveline said to pretend they were invisible, so she held her tongue.

Aveline and Jasmine went to get something else, but Courtney and Josephine followed them like persistent ghosts.

Courtney said from behind Aveline, “Just use your mom’s old trick.”

“Back then, your mom got pregnant on purpose to trap your dad. He never wanted kids and was planning to divorce her to marry me.”

Josephine chuckled. “Mom, that saying is so true: like mother, like daughter.”

Josephine snapped out of it and rushed to Courtney. “Mom, Mom, are you okay?”

Courtney realized it was just milk and breathed a sigh of relief, but she was still shaken, breathing heavily with a hand on her stomach.

Aveline flicked the few drops of milk from her hand and said coolly, “Oh my, why were you standing so close? Good thing this milk isn’t hot. If it were, and I got burned, I’d definitely sue you for assault.”

Josephine whipped around, pointing a finger at Aveline. “What are you talking about? You threw that milk on my mom on purpose.”

“My mom is pregnant! If anything happens to her, I’ll make you pay with your life.”

Jasmine snorted. “If she’s pregnant, why was she standing so close to people? She should just stay home.”

“Getting that close… who knows if you weren’t trying to stage an accident.”

“With our status, why would we try to scam you?”
