Chapter 200
“Also, I copied that surveillance video to put my mom at case because the pregnancy has her stressed, unable to sleep, irritable, and paranoid that someone is trying to harm her.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to my mom. I won’t let her sue my sister.”
“You should hurry and catch up to my sister. It’s not safe for a woman to be at the night market alone with a child.”
Xavier gave a slight nod, turned, and left.
Josephine watched Xavier’s retreating figure, then glanced at Aveline’s back, already at the door. A flash of malice crossed her eyes.
The driver, Amy, was waiting at the hotel entrance. Seeing Aveline and Valentina come out, she quickly opened the car door.
Aveline asked Valentina, “Do you want to take the car or walk? It’s about a fifteen–minute walk.”
Valentina couldn’t decide. “Aunt, is a fifteen–minute walk far? Do you want to walk?”
Just then, Xavier’s voice came from behind them. “Let’s take the car.”
If Aveline were alone, she wouldn’t want to ride in Xavier’s car, but Valentina was still young, and she wasn’t sure if the girl could make it all the way to the night market on foot.
So, Aveline said nothing and got into the car with Valentina.
Xavier saw Aveline slam the car door shut, but he just smiled, unfazed, and got into the passenger seat.
As he was buckling his seatbelt, Valentina asked him, “Uncle, I thought you and Josie had a lot to talk about. My aunt and I were thinking of heading out first.”
Xavier replied, “I was waiting for you guys there. Josie just came over to say a few words to me.”
Valentina said, “Oh. So she just said a few words to you. Good thing she didn’t want to come with us.”
You could tell from her tone that she didn’t want Josephine to go to the night market with them.
Xavier remained silent.
A hint of mockery flashed in Aveline’s eyes.
His beloved niece didn’t like the woman he loved, and there was nothing he could do about it.
Kids are almost all chatterboxes, especially around people they like. Valentina kept talking to Aveline nonstop.
When she said something funny, she would giggle, making Aveline laugh along with her.

Since finding out about the ambiguous relationship between Xavier and Josephine, Aveline hadn’t laughed so freely.
Xavier listened to them talk and laugh quietly, without interrupting.
When they arrived at the night market, Aveline opened the car door, got out, and led Valentina straight into the mar- ket by the hand, not waiting for Xavier.
With Aveline leading her, Valentina forgot all about her uncle.
It was past seven, and the night market was getting lively. Most people who came at this time hadn’t had dinner and were here for the street food delicacies.
Xavier followed quietly behind them. Whenever Valentina wanted to buy a toy or something to eat, he would go and
pay.
Aveline couldn’t argue with him, because it was his niece’s outing, so of course he should pay.
But if Aveline was buying something for herself, she paid for it herself.
At first, Xavier tried to pay, but Aveline told the vendor, “I don’t know him.”
Xavier laughed. “I like buying things for strangers.”
Aveline said sarcastically to the vendor, “This guy’s crazy.”
Hearing this, Xavier just laughed it off.
After buying a lot of food, Aveline found an empty table with Valentina and they sat down to eat.
Valentina finally had a chance to ask Aveline, “Aunt, why did you say you don’t know Uncle, and why didn’t you let him pay for you?”
